what are the plastic things for beside hood

My dealer said they were “gun sights” to aim the car at the lane lines. Funny, but he had clue what they were for… They are really for keeping branches from smashing your front window when driving through more forested off-road trails. You run a rope from each one up to your roof line/rack to protect the window. Clever!
I’m sure someone can post a pic of this setup for you.

I'm just not used to seeing them on vehicles is all.
So it got me wondering just as to why Ford included them.
