That is a 1/4-20 thread... which is one of two commonly used thread sizes in the photography world used to attach cameras, microphones, lights, etc. to tripods, mounting arms, etc.

I use mine for an action camera like a GoPro or a DJI Osmo Action.

But thanks to social media, there are also a ton of adaptors now for tablets and phones as well. So you can easily use it for a phone mount. Or... if you want multiple devices you can use a device rail (like I have on my second photo).

You’d be shocked to find out how excited people were about this 4 years ago. There was so much promised about the vast array of accessories that people might put there. I spent way too much money on a rail that I could affix things to and now it holds a couple of wristbands from the off-roadeo and a go-pro style camera holder.
