Ford Bronco *WARNING* Block Heater Recall Turns into Engine Replacement!!!! IMG_1940

Well my less than 2 year old HE Manual was in for the shock and block heater recall along with state inspection.

I received a call saying they stripped the block removing the heating element and now will need to replace the Block with a Ford Factory Long Block.

I am absolutely stunned. Would have lived with out the heater had I known.
Does anyone on the forum have any advice or contacts with Ford that could be helpful?

I asked about extended warranty and they said 2 years on their work. My main concerns are anything that can happen to all the accessories that need to be put on the long block.

Maybe I’ll just pour myself a Bourbon…….

No idea how they managed that. 1/2" impact going the wrong direction? 6 foot snipe on the ratchet?

I would need a drink as well, that sort of situation would bug the cr*# out of me. Hope it works out to your satisfaction.

Seems pretty excessive but then again - I have never had a block heater in any of my vehicles.

2 year warranty, my ass!

Somebody needs to be issuing you one of those Ford extended warranties for the engine that I keep seeing from Granger. I think a 10-year 125k mile policy should do it. It's the least they can do for basically forcing a complete engine overhaul. If they're dumb enough to destroy the block over one bolt-on accessory...well...

I would also be noting the fact that this will likely show up on a Carfax report in the future. Nothing like "new engine block" entry to give a used car buyer comfort for a 4x4 (or any car for that matter). Might as well say "hit Rudolph on Christmas Eve at 70mph"....

PS: Nothing puts more pressure on a business like the power of social media, as an FYI... :) Trust me on that. It works wonders in situations like this to get what YOU need, not what they want. And having it out there that they did something like this, if it deters just one future customer from engaging them for their business, it's meaningful.

Yikes. I’m sure thats a sick feeling.

I wonder if a complete engine is even on the table with the right persuasion.

The extended warranty is a good idea at minimum.

I curious about the location of the plug. Is it mounted on the exterior below the grill? I have a 2025 OBX Sasquatch and it is under the hood. Also, what’s the chance of getting a lawyer involved who handles “lemon law” cases and make the dealership, assuming they damaged the motor, of make Ford do a buyback and give you a new HE.
Now I’m waiting for the hammer to drop on mine. I already have one recall for the touchscreen which I haven’t had any issues with, yet.

It is where the heating element is threaded into the block where the issue apparently occurred. Plug is under the hood right top side of the car.

Yeah, and what are they going to mess up next replacing the block!!!

These stories right here and personal experience makes me not to do anything with the dealer. I have the noisy synchro issue with my manual and I'm still leaning towards just buying the whole new tranny and putting it in myself.

Why did you get a block heater in the first place? PA isn't that cold consistently.
Personally, I was going to get the block heater for when I go up north. I've got family in the very top edge of the country and wouldn't mind being able to plug in when it's an option - despite the Bronco spending the vast majority of its time in Texas where sub-freezing temperatures are rare even in the depths of winter.
