Sorry if this has already been asked and answered. have a 2022 bronco and want to know:

1. is the valet key water proof?
2. is the only place to have a duplicate of the valet made the dealer?
3. if not, what is the running price to duplicate these? someone saiid due to the cut its about $50?

The reason i ask is i want to take it with me surfing and keep the fob in the car (in a farday bag) locked up.

Thanks in advance.

Well I sure would not be exposing it to saltwater. And if I remember correctly these new fobs for the Bronco do not remain active for code scanning, they go to sleep when motionless. Also it takes multiple codes to be able to jack a Bronco, a separate code is transmitted for each action needed from entry to start. So I see no need for a farday bag.

I'm assuming you are referring to the physical metal key stored inside of the key fob that you can use to unlock the door. (If you're not I'm definitely confused and have no idea what the valet key is.)

1. is the valet key water proof?
Yes.
2. is the only place to have a duplicate of the valet made the dealer?
Anywhere that is capable of side-cutting keys can make them. In my experience, you have to go to a locksmith. The key cutting kiosks at your local hardware store often don't have the equipment to do it.
3. if not, what is the running price to duplicate these? someone saiid due to the cut its about $50?
Mine cost around $40.. I'm sure the price varies will vary widely since locksmiths are usually small businesses.

---

All that said, for the Bronco I just use the keypad. If you don't have a keypad you can add one for ~$110 or so.

Valet Key?

I just have two regular keys, which are Fobs. They are identical. You might be able to select Valet Mode in the infotainment center. Not about to let a Valet try to drive my car anyway.

Valet key is the key inside the fob.

Ford refers to the physical key that can be removed from the keyfob as the "key blade". "Valet key" sounds classier I guess. :geek:

Yeah, this isn't a valet key.
It's a "manual" key if your fob battery dies and also acts as the physical key for the glove box and console.

It's metal and plastic when removed from the fob, so yes it's waterproof?

Valet keys are a thing, bronco doesn't have one.
It is a key you give to the valet to open the doors and start your car, but it can't unlock the trunk or glovebox.

I surf and lock the key fob in my console vault. My Bronco came with a keypad on the dash that has a combo to unlock the transmission-take it out of park. I have a keypad on the door as well. Can’t see a way to surf w/o this setup.

thanks grumpy. i didnt know that. well the plan was to put fob in the faraday bag and lock it in the console while i have the mechanical key on me. the bag would be for if they broke in and drove off with it and the fob. so if you're saying they cant drive away with it without access to the fob then i guess i ordered the bag for nothing lol

yes ragnarkon, i meant the mechanical key in the fob. and good to know it is waterproof but thats why i want the spare. im afraid button in the plastic head might get ruined.

and thanks for the tip, ii'll go to a locksmith and ask.
