Why are cam phasers and issue on multiple Ford engines? Is the design shared somehow?
Yes, most use a similar design. It’s been a problem for years and Ford still can’t figure it out 🤷‍♂️
It's freakin ridiculous this has been a failure point for SO LONG and Ford still can't fix it

Yep cam phasers. Warranty to 40,000 miles. dealer will let it sit overnight and has to hear the noise.

They were never an issue in my SVT Focus... 7200 rpm all day long.
Well considering Ford hasn’t made an SVT Focus in almost 2 decades would explain that 🤦🏻‍♂️ Those VCT units are not even close to the same as the ones in current engines.

Dropped the truck off the Friday before last as I was heading out of town for the week and optimistic that it would be done upon my return. Unfortunately I just found out yesterday that it was in fact the cam phasers and will be possibly another 2 weeks until I get it back 😡

It’s a pretty big job to do, and most dealerships are extremely backed up right now.

Still without my bronco. They are saying the “critical” parts needed may be another month. Considering looking into lemon law at this point as I have been with out for a month already.

Darn. Hope you get it fixed soon. Maybe send pm to the ford account here and let them know. May make a difference or at least get you a loaner. Might ask to help with payments since you can’t ride your injured horse for another month or two, doesn’t hurt to ask.

Not a bad idea on messaging them directly. I did end up with a loaner, but nothing close to what I paid for.

Still waiting to get it back. Have not even started repair so sounds like a minimum of 2 more weeks. I am going to start seriously exploring my options 😡

So how long did it take for dealer to fix your truck? Is the repair good?

Escalate it to your corporate regional manager and threaten to lemon it if you don't receive payment assistance. I don't understand how this is still an issue when Ford completely redesigned the phasers for the 2021+ F-150 3.5Ls. They must not be putting them in the 2.7s yet.

Edit: you can see the updated version here

Mine just started doing this today. Just over 5k... Looks like I'm dropping it off at the dealer.

It’s helpful that if your bronco sits for extended periods to use the “clear flood start procedure.” This will lessen the chances your phasers will go bad. It’s not to cover up already bad phasers, but it’s a way to prevent them from rattling and going bad in the future.
