Hey everyone. I took my Bronco to the dealer back in December for the 4 low reverse camera issue. The one where if you’re in 4 low, go into reverse the rear camera comes on and then never shuts off unless you switch out of 4 low or turn the Bronco off.

They updated the software and I tested it before I left the dealer and the camera was working correctly.

Fast forward to President’s Day weekend. I was in Moab running some trails and the reverse camera issue started again. I made an appointment and took it back to the dealer yesterday. They called and said it was done. When I went to pick it up, I tested it, and the issue was still there. The tech said he ran the software update and tested it afterwards and the camera was working correctly.

I have an appointment to take it back Friday. Anyone have a similar issue where software fixes appear to revert back? If so, how was it solved?

Following. Mine was fixed over a year ago with OTA, still holding. The fix broke the compass on the infotainment screen though.

Wanted to give an update. I took it back into the dealer on Friday and they've had it since then. They tried the updates again, and as expected the did not work. They opened a technical assistance case with Ford on Friday. Between then and now the dealer tech has spent several hours with the Ford tech on the issue, but have not had any success in getting the camera to work correctly.

Right now they are waiting to see if the Ford tech can get approval to come out to Utah and look at the Bronco in person. They claim they have never seen this particular software issue before.

Has anyone taken then 21-22 Bronco to the dealer for this camera issue and had the update completed successfully? On the flip side, anyone run into the same issue I'm having?

It's a pretty minor issue, that I can live with, so I'm not sure how far down the rabbit hole I want them to go.

I have never done a software update on my 2021 Base Saquatch and have never seen this camera issue on it. I'm generally of the opinion that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I had to turn off the ability for it to communicate with the outside world to make that happen (i.e., no updates), so no remote start for me.

Personally, if I did experience that issue, I would probably turn it off and back on and be done with it.

It’s one of those issues that’s not a big deal 99.9% of the time. That .1% of the time that I’m off-roading in 4 low and have to turn the bronco off and restart it after each time I go in reverse is a real pain in the rear. Especially if I have to reconnect and pull up gps maps each time.

On my f150 I can reboot the sync screen by holding power and the track forward button for a few seconds. Not sure if it works on the bronco but might be worth a shot to avoid restarting the whole truck

Dealer contacted me today. They’ve had my Bronco for 2 weeks straight. They’ve spent many hours on video calls with multiple engineers at Ford trying to fix the issue with no success. The dealer said Ford told them to tell me to come and pick it up. Basically they are not going to spend anymore time trying to fix it and if something comes up in the future they’ll let me know. Seems sorta strange for them to say they are not going to fix an item that’s been recalled and the vehicle is still under warranty. I’m not sure if the dealer’s just blowing smoke or if that’s something Ford actually does.

I asked what they’ve actually tried, and it sounds like they’ve tried to run the software update a bunch of different times, and in different ways. However, they haven’t actually replaced any parts. When I asked if it could be a faulty module or something not allowing the update, they said the Ford engineers said that is not possible.

My dealer was telling me this on another issue, and it took me renting FDRS access and buying an adapter to run those same "updates" they were running, only to show them that the updates were actually not being applied at all. They replaced some modules, and lo and behold my problems went away.

@JediMcMuffin I’ve been out of town and just got back today and picked up my Bronco. They claim that the Ford Engineers have never seen this before and that the updates to other Broncos worked flawlessly. I’m not buying it.

Do you happen to know what modules they replaced?

Well, dealer called Friday and said the Ford Engineer had figured it out and asked if I could bring it in today so they could run the update. Dropped it off at 7am this morning. Just got the text that nothing they tried today fixed anything.

I've tried telling them that others have had this issue and that they had to have modules replaced in order to get the updates to take. They say the specialized Ford Engineer has ruled out a module being the problem. I think at this point their hubris is getting in the way of fixing the issue. They've tried running the update at least a dozen times. At what point do you say it might be a piece of hardware that's the issue.

Mine was fixed with an OTA update, but in the process the compass on the infotainment screen stopped working. I've heard replacing some module will fix it, but I really don't trust them to not mess something else up and it's not a big deal.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery? This has resolved numerous electrical wonky issues for many. Worth a try.

I hear you. They text me this morning and asked if I could bring it in again. I think I’m just going to move on. One of these times while trying to fix the issue they’re going to mess something else up.

Yes, the battery has been disconnected. The dealer also said they have checked the ground and the wiring.

I think the issue is what @JediMcMuffin mentioned above, a module not allowing the update to be applied. I’ve mentioned this to them, but they seem unwilling to consider this as a possible cause.
