Does anyone know if the Wildtrack Trim Rings are purely cosmetic? Could you take them off and not use them?

Gouged a couple and was debating having them sent out, some have said they function as beadlocks, I thought they were for looks and you could remove them and install "real" beadlocks rings if you wanted to.

Thanks

Yes, they are purely cosmetic.

Ford labels their functional beadlocks as "off-road use only", so guessing that's why they don't sell them from the factory.

You can take them off, but imho your wheels will look bad. First pic is wheel w/ trim ring off, second pic shows scraped ring and third pic shows what they looked like after I sanded and painted them. Not hard at all to do.

Want to clarify: you take them off and replace them with the functional bead lock ring kit available from Ford.

At that point you have just easily converted your stock wheels into beadlock wheels.

it’s actually a really cool concept. Eliminate the legal hassles of actually selling a new vehicle with bead locks, while at the same time, giving customers an easy (if not inexpensive) way to get beadlocks.

so NO….not totally “cosmetic only”. They do serve the function of “placeholder” of the actual Beadlock ring.

here’s mine after converting from stock rings to functional beadlocks ….

Thanks, but that's not what I had in mind.

I want to take them off while I refinish them or have them refinished.

I took mine off of my 23 Wildtrak and had them blasted and powder coated. Much cheaper than buying the colored ones from Ford and you get to pick the color/finish you want. You can drive around without the rings while you wait for them to do their thing, but I wouldn’t air them down and take it off-road without them.

Mind if I ask the cost of the blasting and powder coating?

I got lucky on the 23 badlands I had. I pulled them off (the silver ones) and under them all my rims were gloss black. Looked sick without them on there. But I ended up painting them black and put them back on.

No rings. As I said, all my rims including the spare were back under the rings. 23 badlands.

I would not say they are purely cosmetic. They function to protect the wheel. Imagine wheeling without the rings and getting the gouges (shown above) directly on the wheel. Gouged rings can easily be replaced.

Beadlocks are not legal on DOT roads, so OEM's cannot furnish them installed. I've never heard of anyone being ticketed though, so sort of a silly situation.

Thanks - I'm not looking to remove them permanently, only while they are getting refinished. This sounds like it should not be an issue.

Yeah no issue. Put the bolts back in the holes thought to protect the threads while you are driving it around.
