I'm looking to develop a transmission cooler kit for the 2.7L, just seeing if there is a demand out there. The other kits look to be $900 and $1100. Mine would target around $300 and utilize a Hayden 698 cooler with built-in thermostat.

Doesn't seem to be a huge issue with overheating on the 10 speed but my kit would be mostly compatible with the 2.7L Ranger as well. Let me know of any questions or interest.

I tend to steer clear of products designed to a price point, especially if that price is a fraction of it's competition in either direction.

That's a fair point. My goal isn't to build a "cheap" kit, it's to build a more cost-effective kit for the everyday guy. Toyotas have plenty of trans. cooler options in this price range. I know because I've developed and sold them before.

From what I've seen so far, a significant portion of the cost in the existing kits appears to be in the custom radiators and hoses. My thought was to use a proven off-the-shelf cooler (Hayden 698 series) and Gates hoses.

I’d like to see how the product concept looks. I get that can be hard to do when you’re still gauging interest. I’ve got the parts for the Raptor cooler so I’d like to see how it can compare, especially at that price point.

Who is having trans temp issues? Sounds like a fix to a problem I have not seen.

It would be similar to this one. Difficult part is coming up with an aluminum bracket that fits the core support of the Bronco and machining the adapters that allow coupling into the factory transmission heat exchanger. This would still let the engine coolant warm up the transmission fluid like stock, but bypass to the cooler once fluid temps increase.

Overheating isn't necessarily a problem with Toyotas either but after adding bigger tires, more weight, hot weather, and occasional towing, its cheap peace of mind driving up mountains and can extend the life of your fluid.

Looks like it's about $250 to completely drain and refill the transmission after overheating the fluid (with DIY labor). If this kit saves you from doing that only once it's paid for itself.

Not terrible. I like the idea of the thermostat option as that's my main driver for this type of mod due to the fluid spec. With the 10R issues cascading into more recent models, and heat seeming to be a factor, I'm glad this has been a mod I follow. It just makes more sense to actually allow the transmission to cool itself when needed. The factory setup can't cool itself lower than the temperature of the engine coolant and sometimes that means trans temps in the 230° range just having some fun especially slow moving stuff where the torque converter isn't locked and is just dumping heat that can't escape.
