I was just curious I have seen a few pictures of people tying a kayak to the trail sights on the front of the hood. Has this held up over time? I am unsure if they are designed to have that kind of force pulled on them or not. I have two sit on fishing kayaks and want to mount a couple J brackets and use those to tie down. I would be traveling 4-6 hours with them on top at highway speed 70ish mph.

Thanks for any input.

I haven’t had any problem with the tie down points, just need a better pad for the front window area. Also I didn’t go highway speeds.

Kayak? Hell, you could get a 14' John boat up there with those tie downs!

I’ve noticed a lot of people talking about not using a rack. Is that because of the difficulty to remove the hard top if there is a rack installed?

I use the factory rack, yakima canoe brackets, tied to trail sights for a tandem with flat gunwales keel over...perfect.

Man if I hadn't spent the last 8 months and all my spare money on mods I'd trade you straight up for my A51

It takes another ten minutes to get the rack off if you've done it before. I leave mine off and hanging in the garage until I actually need it.
