Tape a $20 to the center console and leave the doors unlocked. When a bad guy sees it, they will think it's a trap and move on, or, they will take it quick and move on. Cheaper than a broken window and or increased insurance premiums.

That's just it right? you just don't leave anything of importance in the car. locking doors with a soft top is a waste of time.

Jeep owners learned long ago that locking your doors with a soft top is not only worthless, it may be costly ... unless you don't mind duct taping over the not-to-delicately created knife cut access hole in your soft top.

When I lived in Detroit the rules were as follows.

1) NEVER leave anything of value in your car, not even loose change.
2) If you HAVE to leave something of value in your car, put it in your trunk at your origin, not your destination but lock your trunk.
3) Leave your doors unlocked. If they want to get in it's better to come back to an ajar door than some broken glass.

Basically, if someone wants something bad enough they'll take it.

Even out in the suburbs of Chicago its getting really bad. The biggest thing going around in the Chicago area has been those who can clone the keypad/remote start signal on Challengers, Chargers, and Jeep Grand Cherokees

Just a month ago someone was robbed at gun point at a Wendy's in Aurora, IL and shot in the back. There are so many ways a criminal can violate you, steal from you, hurt you.
One can barely devise enough scenarios in which they can effectively protect themselves.

And the reality is that you and your car are much safer parked than when driving. Over 3 million people a year are injured in auto accidents, compared to about 750k auto thefts.

I just can't let myself worry about this stuff too much, especially not enough to shoot somebody over a damn car. That is craziness.

Last time I lived in a place I had to worry about it, I'd remove I believe a starter really chip under the hood. Removed it EVERY time to at least eliminate all but a truck loading it up and hauling it away. Did the same for my crotch rocket. Saved me once!

I mean, it's a risk you're taking with any new vehicle. Have good insurance that way if it's stolen, you can get another one. Don't park it in shady areas. Don't leave valuables inside of it. Park in your garage at night. Really, just use common sense. If someone wants it bad enough, they're going to get it regardless of what you do. Just lower the opportunities people have to do so.

Many have mentioned their own home-baked kill switch ideas, but Ravelco is proven. It isn't that expensive and it works.

Just mount it somewhere discreet under the hood. If I'm ever somewhere that I need to worry about theft, just take the red switch key with me.
