The Scout Reveal is Coming!

I view the first Bronco as a copy of the Scout, not a Jeep . . . And Scout was first. Our family owned two. What both the Bronco and the Scout had in common in 1966 was they were both rustbuckets on Cape Cod.

Anyway, the "Reveal" of the new electric Scout, to be made here in SC, is due October 24. It is a Volkswagon, because VW ended up with the rights to IH (International Harvester). It is expected that a pickup and a sedan will be produced at the same time!

Years ago, my brother had a Scout! So kool when the metal top was off...a true convertible, no roll bars/obstructions!

And who is Scout Motors?? Folks warned me against a new model and I assured them it was a Ranger on a different body with an already out engine....

But a Scout??

I'm sure the Scout will be a handsome vehicle but it will wilt on the vine after a couple months. The electric vehicles are dead and it will be a few decades before they ever catch on but, that will probably not occur either. Hydrogen will lead the way for future propulsion.

I always viewed the Bronco as a rip-off of the Land Cruiser, they are far more similar..... And the Land Cruiser proceeds the Scout.

Weren't enough Land Rovers around in that era to influence anyone, that I remember. In the 1960's into early 1970s I remember Scouts (1960 on) Broncos (1966 on), Blazers (1969 on), Jeeps, including the old panel Jeep

I always viewed the Bronco as a rip-off of the Land Cruiser, they are far more similar..... And the Land Cruiser proceeds the Scout.

I remember the old Toyotas and Land Cruisers copying each other, and the Scouts and Broncos and Jeeps being most popular in my area, with the Scout (1960) and Bronco (1966) being the most popular among my neighbors.

My money is on solid state batteries. Until then, PHEV/ICE/Diesel are remaining in my garage.

If Scout has a solid rear axle and IFS, it has a shot at being something nice, although not serious off-road since, where are you gonna charge out in the woods? Where to charge even just outside of the woods? Hard enough to find decent gas stations let alone a level 3 charger, but ok.

It’s a novel idea although EVs are sort of dropping off and out of consciousness for maybe the next 5-10 years, but for the poseur crowd, the Scout will be awesome if it has “the look”.

Defender sort of has it, although sort of softer and not serious off-road unless you add about $15K in upgrades. The LC and GX have the look. If the Scout has over 200 miles of range and cost reasonable, it’ll sell very well because of “the look”.

I can’t wait to see the reveal although I don’t totally trust VW, but I am rooting for them to do well with this project.

You make a good point, battery vehicles are suffering from some adoption fatigue, will be interesting to see what happens!

The early Scout had a chassis and drivetrain nearly identical to the Jeep. The Bronco came along and married a Scout like body on a far superior chassis and drivetrain which was the beginning of vehicles superior to both Jeep and Scout. The Scout gave us frameless windows though....
