When that freeze hit us last month, We were without power for 3 full days...I said never again! My new generator will be here next Wednesday!Yesterday morning we were 3 degrees with a -17 degree wind chill factor one hour north of Dallas. This morning, Zero degrees outside, 2" to 6" more snow tonight.
Our rolling blackouts are now 40 minutes on, 40 minutes off, we are on CoServ utility which seems to be a little better than Oncor. My sister-in-law in Austin had no power yesterday, she tired to get a hotel last night, called six, they were already full.

I'm right there with you, I'm studying right now whole home generators, Generac vs Cummins Onan vs Kohler vs Briggs & Stratton. Currently leaning towards Cummins Onan or Kohler but I have a lot more to read and learn. Next time the Texas Wind & Solar go offline I will be ready with my ICE solution. When that freeze hit us last month, We were without power for 3 full days...I said never again! I guess when its 95 and humid as hell you can always say "at least we live in Winter Park"!There’s also “Winter Haven, FL”![]()
Also Check out Champion. I was researching the whole house route...Generac and Champion...at a minimum it was going to be around 4-5k depending on which one I went with. Not counting installation, which from what I could gather could go as a high as 2k. Unless I installed it myself. then I was like I don't want to spend that much for only losing power a couple times a year. So portable it was. I settled on Westinghouse...3 year warranty, lots of good reviews and Dual Fuel...Generac does not offer a Dual Fuel Option. I am going to mount a generator plug to the house and wire into the electrical panel and hook it up to my propane tank that's buried beside the house. Oh, the only place I could find this particular one was Amazon!I'm right there with you, I'm studying right now whole home generators, Generac vs Cummins Onan vs Kohler vs Briggs & Stratton. I haven't been to a hospital, or anyplace where they take temperatures, today.
Same here in MN.Not sure I'm going to call it winning ... -20F with a -35F wind-chill this morning.
Yesterday was -30F with a -45F wind-chill.
