Tailgate Table Madness

So I decided my criteria for tailgate table were molle panel, a solid surface, and inexpensive . . . So Amazon.

Then I let my molle arrangement percolate thru my head. I know ACU camo is the worst camo ever, but it goes with sagebrush and a cactus gray bronco. I also wanted a way to carry fencing pliers because barbed wire gates are always falling apart. So I wasted half a day building this and hating it.

After lots of frustration I remembered another milsurp solution that took thirty seconds. Will get a shovel cover to permanently attach folding shovel. Be gentle. It was a frustrating day.

Funny part is, there not even my f'ing gates, but there all over the BLM land, and I feel this strange sense of guilt driving away, leaving the mess behind me.

Actually, barbed wire and farm fencing sometimes needs just to be cut and cleared when it’s not where it needs to be
as they say, good fences make good neighbors

Klutchtech Tailgate Table. $159 at Amazon. The Instructions SUCK. I don’t have the ability to bold face italics underline how much they suck. The video doesn’t help much. Nothing is conceptually hard, but the screws aren’t labeled, and they are all “Special Screws.” I could post some pictures that might help. Hell, I was willing to write instructions for the company in return for free products once I was done figuring it out.

Rattles? Nope. Unladen, there was a metallic “bong” or “boing” vibration sound upon closing the gate. This seems to have gone away once I added bags. I did hear a bag related “squeak” pulling out of my driveway tonight, but that was only once. I’m heading out to the desert next week to report if the bags squeak excessively off road.

I have the same table without the molle panel, and it has a bit of noise. I fixed it by adjusting the latches and putting a piece of sticky foam over the upper mount screw heads. An extra 5 minutes after installation and it's so quiet I sometimes forget it's there.

I concur with the OP that the instructions SUCK, but I figured it out. A hardcore magnet and long dextrous fingers are your friend, but it isn't any worse than the tiny 90s cars I've worked on since I was 15.

My hunting buddy's rig puked a transmission in a town on the way to camp. I've spent three days off-road. The tailgate table and bags didn't rattle or squeak.

I told my friend who I spent many years riding horses and making bad decisions with that he should slap me harder next time I get an idea. Hand stitching the leather on the bag was a major PITA. Sad part is that the first aid bag and shovel holster would complete things. I hesitate to use the word finished because I can't leave well enough alone.
