Hey what’s the best paint to spray the front skid plate black that will last against rocks coming at it?

Best is going to be powder coating. You can get it done relatively cheaply
Second best is probably the rattle can special. I did my beauty rings with this and it’s held up extremely well. Cheap quick and easy

I'd stay away from Power Coating, it's great until it's chipped, scratched, or damaged then it can allow moisture under the surface and it doesn't last long after that.

As previously recommended, the spray on bed liners work well.

Rust-oleum Roll Bar and Chassis paint. I found it at Harbor Freight.

I'm using it to touch up powder coated parts.

Spray on bed liner would probably be more durable.

Another vote for Rustolem. I use the Black Bedliner stuff - it matches most every textured powder coat out there, and has held up really well. The spray can isn't thick like Rhino Liner or LineX, it just has a very little bit of texture to it when it dries. And seems to hold up pretty good.

There are powder coats that do not cancer out. We use Poly Armour on swimming pool scuppers.

Tractor implement paint. Make sure you prep the surface. If I can move 1000+ tons of rocks, dirt, logs, etc and the paint in my loader is still there, you know it's going to hold up on a skid plate. And I'm not exaggerating either- I did 240 tons just in the last 4 months, and I've had it for almost 7 years.

Roll bar + chassis paint is similar.

I saw another member mention Steel-It, which is an awesome paint and very durable. We used to use it on medical projects where the client couldn't afford solid stainless framework everywhere but still needed cleanroom/washdown/CIP rating. Lots of mild steel frames are painted with Steel-It and last a very long time. I had the gas tank on my '69 Mach 1 painted with Steel-It, and it's exposed under the car.

Like I always tell my children, don’t tailgate and you won’t have issues like that. That goes for the windshield as well. My son tailgates constantly just like almost everybody I see on the highways and he drives a Ford fusion with a windshield. that’s laid-back ridiculously far and he still gets chips in his windshield. I haven’t had a rock chip in 40 years of driving. The only difference between me and my son is I don’t ride people‘s asses on the highway.
