If you had two sets of wheels, which tire size and wheel size would you pick for street and off-road for your bronco?

Right now I have a set of duelers TO for my on road, and territories for my off-road.

My goal is a good quiet ride with good MPG as a daily driver (99.5% of driving), and then switch out to a set of competent off roads, which I feel like would be better than a compromise tire that does neither the best.

What kind of mpg are you expecting to get from a 'street' tire? There are some great hybrid tire options that do well off road but behave great on pavement still. For me I'd say a 37" mud terrain is best but if you want to swap for something that weighs 30 lbs less per wheel you're going to have a weird looking ride at that point.

The choice for optimizing time and money is to run your offroad tires on the street.

The offroad tires give you more street cred than the "smart" street tires will.

I'm quite liking my combo setup. I already get a 4-5mpg difference, but also just better driveability. With the off road tires, I have to be consistently 3-4 notches higher on the volume, and I can feel the give in the sidewall. The street tires drive remarkably close to a smaller vehicle and I'm very happy with it.

I grabbed the takeoffs for like $250, it made itself back in about 5000 miles. Over the course of its lifetime I can get another set of off-road tires for free just by the gas savings alone, let alone the money saved from having to get hearing aids and treating my tinnitus.

I really don't care about my street cred or how others see me as much as my ride comfort and efficiency when on the highway. But if you have what seems like an impossible suggestion for a street tire that has the street cred but also weighs 30lbs less I'm all ears.

I would think something like a 29” all season for the street and 37” mud terrain off road would be what ya are looking for…you do you!

For on road, I would go with either 285/70R17 or 275/70R18 depending on what size wheel you want. Both will give the Bronco the off roader look without too much sidewall flex on the highway and tread noise.

285/70R17 has some nice riding and quiet options like the Falken Wildpeak AT, Cooper Discoverer Road & Trail, BF Goodrich Trail Terrain, Falken Rubitrek,
and Bridgestone Dueler AT Ascent among others. Just make sure to get either standard load or load range C.

For fuel mileage-short and narrow with road tread, not big and burly.

So my thoughts so far would be:

On road
285/70R17 Michelin defender 2

Off-road
35" KM3, Nitto Trail/Ridge Grappler or Wildpeak AT3W
I still might have to drive 1000 highway miles for some destinations, so looking at how the AT3W handle off road, I thought they would be something to consider

I would be curious as to what the ROI is.
-$$$$ for extra set of rims & tires
- =+$ for gas savings

I've been kicking around this option for over a year now, but finally decided against it. My problem is I like to just roll out of bed and go off-road too frequently. The time and energy it takes to perform 2 wheel/tire swaps every time I go off-road just isn't worth it to me. Sure, I'm wearing down some high dollar off-road tires with all my street driving, but the tires would age out anyway if I only used them off-road. 🤷‍♂️

Are you running 29" Duelers and 40" Territories?
33" duelers and 35" territories (that actually measure in at 34").

It's not too surprising that there's significant efficiency bump given the tread pattern and weight differences.

I've played with PSI on the territories for better driveability, and it did get better with slightly less PSI, and also measured the mpg with no real change.

You should drop down to the Base 29", you'll might achieve another 7-8 mpg.
