I've been running the GoRhino D6 steps since 2021, they get the job done (the job being: my wife and children can get into the car mostly without issue). However, I do have some pretty hard runs planned over the next two years. I want to swap them out with ones ideally have at least some amount of frame mounting.

These are my current options I'm eyeballing:

$859 - https://turnoffroad.com/products/2021-ford-bronco-4-door-step-rock-slider - still not frame mounted, but much beefier steel and brackets, I think they look great too. I'm skeptical that this worth my dollars given that it's still body mounted, but at a glance it looks like they can take a much harder hit.

$1100 - https://rcimetalworks.com/product/rock-sliders-21-present-bronco/ - this is more appropriate, frame mounted, has that nice curve towards the rear to pivot around a big rock.

Following! Also looking for something that can serve as both slider and step, don’t have the chance to go wheel often and the wife needs the step.
looking at a couple options including those mentioned, the RTR ones looks pretty good. And raptor take offs are also a choice

RTR $999 - That's a solid option I had not really looked at. Still body mounted. I like that they sit tighter and higher than the D6 and cover up the pinch weld.

Am I overthinking the need for frame mounting?

I put the RCI units on our 2-dr. When we got our 4-dr, the RCI slider/steps were mod #2 with Mabett front mud flaps, after Mabett interior lights. These and the flaps would have been #1 for gravel flinging damage prevention but shipping time put the lights at #1.

I went with the 5 degree on both trucks. They work great as a step with the tread plate and the keep a lot of the spray/fling off the sides. I've had the full weight of the 2-dr on them more than once. Mainly stumps, but the finish has held up. I'd guess rocks would get through the powder coat pretty quick. Personally I find the much disliked dash grab handles work pretty well with these slider/steps. They do hang below the body, but not below the frame. You could get hung up on them, but they are certainly higher than the rear shock and trailing arm mounts.

I have the turn offroad step sliders on our bronco. I think they're the same ones that Turn runs on their shop rigs, and I've seen them take a few good hits on their YouTube channel. Hopefully they'll hold up fine if I ever come down on them hard.

I like the Turn Offroad sliders. They’re very solid and provide great protection, even though they’re body-mounted. But I wouldn’t recommend them in their stock form - they tend to collect a lot of sand and dirt. I ended up modifying mine by enclosing them, adding small drainage holes to allow water to escape, and sealing the round cutouts with rubber plugs, so the dirt doesn't get in.

In the photo, the left slider is in its stock form, and the right one has been modified.

Check out the JCR sliders. They're frame mounted and actually look nice.

A solid choice as well, and they're local business to me. Maybe I can save on shipping and go get'em :D

Honorable mention for @StinkBug's Sledgehammer, which has a flat part (about 3") that works great as a step. These are beef, so definitely not for the fainting goats. They also look great. Put a little stair grip tape on the top and you'll be fitter, hipper and happier than a duck in a rainstorm.

I have Dallas's skids to up fit my WT and they are stout for sure. Those are nice. Are those jacking points?
