I'm new here so forgive me if this has been talked about or is an error but this price seemed like a mistake so I went in to a local dealership and talked to parts department and yep they are asking $1800 per piece for a small bracket if you are converting from hard to soft top.

I just had to order the retainer clip for the prop rod ( i lost mine at some point ). Online parts ordering had that piece pegged at $50 + $400 shipping. My dealer's parts department got it for $17.

Darn Bronco tax... But hey, it comes with an "installation tool" so maybe they're providing some Snap On tools or something (for that price).

I'd check with your local parts department for a more accurate price.

That sounds like someone who didn't really look into it any further than typing it into a computer and finding what you did.

@flip can you confirm this pricing?

It's correct. I have no idea what changed but have a feeling this is some sort of problem on Ford's end with cataloguing. The part superseded several times until the last "replaced by" ended up being M2DZ-78515A54-D with a list price of $1,606.68.

Even plugging the -C into DOW it forces you to go to -D so it's like they either f'd up and put some sort of "kit" together that includes the latches and uses the basic, 78515A54, for the kit. That should mean the individual latches are assigned a new basic but that's usually not how they do it. Generally new parts get new basic numbers, they typically don't cannibalize existing numbers without assigning new numbers and correcting the catalogue.

I’d like to buy a soft top, is this something I would need to purchase coming from a factory hardtop?

Also a link to source the brackets from mountains2metal. Those brackets have been priced wrong for a couple months now. I ordered oem in December and they were $30 with no eta.

Same for me in Canada. I have been waiting 11 months to get the parts to go from hard top to a soft top. I wanted to ''encourage my local Ford dealer'' instead of going online!!! So, I received most of the part at the right price and I was just missing the 2x receiver bracket M2DZ-78515A54-C. You can imagine my surprise when they called me to say that they received FINALLY the part but they are 1800$ each!!!! When back them it was online 27.90$ each!!!!!!!!!!

Look for
M2DZ78515A54D
on eBay. $500-600. i just paid 600+ for the pair from my dealer. The 'D' is a part # for a 'kit' that contains both.

Just installed my soft top yesterday. Finally. Bought last june/july. More difficult than I expected but it'll be a breeze in the future.

The mountains2metal product saved me $600+. That price is a scam. They are plastic with metal at the hit point. sure to wear out or break. the M2M product is solid stainless. Fit exactly the same. Easy to adjust. came with stainless bolts. Highly recommended.

Since fresh in my mind, here's how I would do it again
1) install reinforcements. Too bad they don't leave access holes to tight these after top in place.
2) put top in place. should set down on the pins. doesn't sit level since weight in the back. line up the holes. don't bother tightening completely. just snug up.
3) install latch points in the top rail. leave loose.
4) close the top. make sure clipped to (3). latch the front. that's tough. hope it gets easier.
5) loosen mounting bolts. it'll settle in. tighten.
6) can now tighten bolts in top rail from inside with top closed.
7) install M2M receivers (catch set) and close the back
8) I haven't installed my windows yet.
9) open the top and go for a ride.

enjoy the summer!
