Ok I see what you're saying. I like the JCR but it's unfortunate that it doesn't work with the factory engine skid.

Hmm Aluminum would be nice though.

The thing about skid plates is no matter what kind they are the make the area you want to protect even lower and more subject to hanging up. On my 2.3 I don't have the K braces and everything , vital is tucked pretty well. I did go ahead and order the transfercase skid. The worrisome thing is the transmission, though nicely tucked that plastic pan is subject to a rolled rock or limb. I'm thinking of a home built skid that kicks up in front of the crossover pipe and mounts to the sway bar bolts up front.

This is the damage I'm trying to limit btw. Oh and ignore the dirt, haven't figured out a way to clean under it yet :)
You can just cut them off, my bronco didn't even come with those bars. Looks like they are part of the factory off-road protection. Going to be interesting if these companies take those cross bars into the design between different trims

They only come on the 2.7L. Maybe the engineers thought the frame needed strengthening with all that power!

oh damn, I had no idea those braces weren't on all the Bronco's. I'm not as worried about abusing them then. Seems like you could cut them out and just get some flat metal skid there.

Actually looks like it wouldn't be to hard to do, you could weld straight to the braces as they un-bolt with the cross member.

Honestly man, these don’t look very damaged at all. It looks like they are doing exactly what they are designed to do… and I’d bet will be way cheaper to replace than an aftermarket skid plate will be, if you do get them really mashed up. Maybe a little rustoleum to make you feel better about their condition? I’d honestly just leave them as-is

Yea honestly once I realized they aren't even on other trims I'm way less worried about bashing them up. A skid would prob help with not getting hung up on stuff though.

Which transfer case skid did you go with? Do you have any pictures of it installed?

Yes. I bought the engine skid, transfercase skid and rear tow hook for about $250 shipped, hasn't arrived yet. Shipping is a killer, but still cheaper than most

BTW I don't think they come with bolts, but I figure I can get that at the hardware store.
