To be clear, I'm not trying to replace the GLS with a Braptor. The GLS belongs to my wife. I just feel like Mercedes can justify the 100K+- price so much easier than the Raptor.

What is a golden ticket?
If you do not intend to use the raptor for that role in which it is uniquely and probably singularly capable, you are right. But I would strongly recommend against trying to do elevated jumps and open desert high speed or boulder crawling runs in the Merc. And for god sake, don't try and take the roof and doors off! :)

Amusingly, I have seen what happens when a GLS450 tries to do a jump in the median of I94. It did not end well for the GLS to say the least.

The panoramic glass roof was pretty easily removed in this case though!

As with any vehicle it's all about perspective and what you value. Honestly, if I wasn't going to off-road the Braptor and use it as a purpose built adventure vehicle I would have bought something else. That said, the performance and capability of the Braptor straight from the factory is super unique so for me it's been worth it.

I hear ya! G wagons have always seemed to have dealer markups. This is a G4x4(squared) back in 2017…

Not a normal G. These are extra special.

I’m seriously considering an Ineos Grenadier. Starting to see lots in my area. I do prefer a G63, but haven’t found one I like yet.

I almost considered one but once the automotive press butchered the steering I decided it was not worth being different.

I wouldn’t dismiss the Grenadier based on steering critiques. I know two people who own them that said that the transition getting used to the steering doesn’t take that long. I learned a long time ago for better and worse to personally test drive vehicles and not to take reviewer’s opinions as gospel.

Yes, but I decided I would rather spend the money on a Raptor given the gutless performance of the Grenadier and the fact that I had enough of a front solid axle owning a Wrangler for 85k miles.

Solid axle is just unpleasant for long distance highway driving in my opinion.

Spoken like a true raptor owner. As a fellow owner, I salute your choice of vehicles and I am sooo glad that ford brought back the bronco and included in the raptor, a modern throw back to the Baja broncos of yore that slayed the Baja 1000. Is this a great country or what?

I've been looking at Raptor's for the past month or two and I really want to buy one but I just can't get over the price. I know most are selling +- $15,000 below sticker price but that is still a lot for what you get. I bought a 2024 Mercedes GLS 450 for my wife about a year ago and it was about 96K and I feel as though it was kinda my reference point for a 100K vehicle. I fully understand the target market for a Braptor and a GLS are totally different but there really is no comparison. I'm most likely gonna bit the bullet and get one if I can get what I want for around 75K but I just wanted to bitch a little.
Nothing should cost what it does but here we are.

I just test drove one in Seattle over the holidays. It's definitely better built than the light duty feel of the USA made Bronco Raptor. The B58 BMW under hood is a superior engine to the Ford lump further detuned to enjoy a longer service life. You can just tell the Gren was built to last decades made by the same factory producing G wagons.

Fomoco has so many Chinese/Mexico parts in its parts catalog which speaks volumes in more ways than one.

But it's hard to pass up on 37s with crazy fender flares straight out of the factory floor. Choose your adventure.
