I was out in some pretty mild off road conditions (mostly gravel roads) and at regular tire pressure (39psi) and got a flat. Found a hole (although nothing indicating what caused the hole) so swapped to the spare. Got home and tried to plug the hole and then found another leak. Plugged that one (which was more of a pinhole) and then found even more pinholes. So tire is shot.

These are the stock Goodyears with almost 23k miles on them.

Now the conundrum, I'd like to replace them with K03s but they won't be available until August.

So do I get another Wrangler as a spare now and get the K03s later? Or get a set of something else now and hope the rest of the Goodyears last another couple months?

Literally had a similar issue this weekend with my spare when it was claimed it couldn't be patched (but hey we'll sell you another one...). At the moment just plugging it and using it as emergency only.

You can get a used tire perhaps, if you don't care if they match. Or, if you're sticking with the same size, get the Territory and just keep it as a dedicated spare when you get the K03's.

The one thing that I don't know is how many more miles the rest of the Goodyears will last. At 23k are they almost dead or will they last a few thousand more?

Check places like Facebook marketplace, Craigslist or the classifieds here and see if anyone has a single spare GY they'll part with.

I'm thinking about 30-35k (I have 24k), for mine at least. Maybe for some of the off roading you do, it'll be better to get something sooner, although I guess maybe not the K03's if they're not out yet?

What is it with SAS tires this weekend? I picked up a nail as well and had it plugged. It will probably live on as my spare now and I will just do a 4 tire rotation.

For what it's worth, I've been plugging our tires for over 30yrs. I've got 3 of my tires right now with plugs. I don't worry about moving a plugged tire to spare or backup (I'd run out of tires). Done well, a plug can last just fine in my experience aired up or down.

By the way, the reason we've got so many plugged tires at present is all the d@mn construction around town. I get far more screws, nails, bolts etc in town than I do off road. Frustrating.

I'd plug the crap out of the spare but not these pinholes. And not 6 or more. Feels more like the carcass failed.

Didn't mean to disagree with you about your situation. It certainly seems to be an issue with your tire(s). I was simply adding to the others about switching any plug to "spare" status and giving up on a 5-tire rotation.

I would not be offroading on the stock Goodyears. They weigh 20 pounds less than everyone else for a reason. I remember at a Bronco event, they were all chipped and beat up, where I konw ko2s would have been just fine. I'd just use the spare for now and wait for the ko3s. I'd only buy another set if you are using them in town.

My Dad's sasquatch has had multiple punctures, and only has about 7500 miles on it. Even sharp gravel on his access road one time. Those Goodyears aren't the greatest for toughness.

Maybe call Les Schwab and see if they have a set of suitable used tires you could buy? Sometimes, those are a real bargain.

FWIW, I have K02s on my Badlands, and they've been excellent, even on snow & ice - maybe just get a set of those and skip the K03s for now? No punctures, either.

I had 4 plugs in 3 of my tires. put 40k miles on them. If it's holding air and not on a sidewall drive it.

If your looking for an excuse I would say rock them until the ko3 is out.

I’m currently at 31K on mine with a plug in the spare. I plan on changing mine out at 35-36K with some Nittos or KO2s. They got loud after about 15-20K but still plenty of tread to make it to 36K.

I know better, but I was being cheap (mostly to see if I want to be on 35's vs 33.5/37's) and picked up a set of 5 this weekend from @Discount Tire, with replacement certificates (given how likely they are to fail) it was $1150 for all 5, mounted and balanced.

I suspect that I am not going to like them, but I also wanted to keep the unsprung weight low considering that I am moving to the Eibach Pro Truck 2.0 struts, which would benefit from keeping the weight down on each corner - they aren't Fox 2.5 or 3.0 shocks after all. These are nearly 20# lighter than many other options, and 10# lighter than the 33.5" Milestar Patagonia M/T tires I am running.

I'll still need a spare. I plan on much more off roading the summer. If I can't find a used one I may just get a new Goodyear. Can't trust these tires off road enough to go without a spare.
