Just got my Bronco. I ordered the roof rack. I didn't realize the crossbars were going to be set at fixed locations. The bars are 28" on center. I have a decent sized sears rooftop cargo carrier but the mounting points are only 21" on center. With my other vehicles, I've always been able to move the crossbars to any location on the rails. Have any of you guys used a cargo box on your Bronco? My cargo carrier is old so I'm not sure if all modern boxes come with mounting locations that are 28" on center.

I wasn't aloof about a cargo basket but a regular cargo carrier. Wondering if the mounting points on most cargo carriers are 28" on center or adjustable.

I have a big Yakima SkyBox cargo box I bought 8 years ago. (I haven’t used it on my Bronco since I don’t have a roof rack on it. I use it on my other vehicles.) The mounting feet are adjustable. Most, if not all, Yakima cargo boxes have adjustable feet. Probably the same for Thule ones.

The online descriptions of the specific cargo boxes should provide this information. If they don’t, you can easily get access to the installation instructions. Additionally, you should be able to find out the minimum and maximum distances between the mounting feet.

I’d buy one with adjustable mounting feet so that you can move the box forward or backward so that you can align on your vehicle as needed (especially so that it won’t obstruct an open rear hatch or window).

Yakima cargo boxes are on sale (e.g., 20% off) for Labor Day. Thule and some other brands probably are on sale too.
