That the factory sports bars comply with NHTSA requirements and IIHS ratings is not in doubt.

And that it (the factory sports bars) won't comply with SCORE or SAE regulations is also not in doubt.

Perhaps instead of the long-winded back-and-forth of @MythlinMasterdo asking an open ended question, then getting upset with the answers, we could cut to the chase?

@MythlinMasterdo what organized racing are you planning on doing, and what is their governing body regulations for which you're confused about the roll-cage requirements?

This will guide us to give information to a shop which will be able to build a certified roll cage for the racing you're planning on doing. Obviously, this will have to be something replaced/updated whenever the regs change. But let's all be thankful it's not SCCA cone racing or your cage would need to be warmed over constantly!

There are essentially zero bolt-in roll cages which will provide you enough safety beyond what the boron-steel sports bars are giving you. Perhaps something will come out eventually, but the bolt-in cages are seldom the proper answer to the question you've been beating around the bush in asking, vaguely.
I’m not racing in any specific series on an annual basis. This year the only official race that I am participating in is the Baja 500 in June. Other than that I do high speed(70mph+) desert off roading and want to be safe. I was hoping that a bolt in cage would work but it looks like I need to get one welded in which is fine. I was hoping to avoid going 100% custom but it looks like I’ll have to do that.

Translated: You could have saved yourself and everyone else a lot of time by just asking the SPECIFIC question you have rather than the random, vague whatever it is you tried to ask.

Technical response:
As you are well aware, Baja 500 follows the regulations set forth by SCORE, their governing body.

The regulations are clear as to the cage requirements. Note that they CLEARLY state all cages must be welded in, no bolt-on cages allowed.

Page 6 is where things get spicy for you, and don't forget, you have to pay to play!

Are there any aftermarket roll cages? I don’t trust the soft top to protect me in a rollover situation.
You should have ordered a hard top then.
They will be MUCH safer in high speed desert roll over situations.

Personally, I'd much rather be in a high speed roll over in a dessert situation..... you know, rolling around in a tub of jello with one of those sweet, lowest tier stripper girls from Yuma!!!
By high speed, I mean, they're all meth heads down there.
That's where the fun is!

Please clarify, when you reference the Yuma bus stop skanks (who I know quite well, mind you), you're referring only to the ones high on speed, or are other narcotics allowed for your interests in off-road racing?

I have two Broncos so I wanted to know what all options are! My hardtop won’t be delivered in time for the Baja 500 now though so I’m taking the soft top :/

Maybe the Urus will be the better choice 😂

So you folks are saying all the “bars” already there are non functional?
Nope. Just answering the question that the OP asked.
I imagine it could be strengthened just like any other vehicle.

Mmmm, you might want to ask Ford about that.

EDIT: According to you, the Raptor is inept, and Ford under-designed/engineered it for "high speed rollovers" and anyone who buys one is just waiting to die in a rollover.... unless they outfit it with some over-engineered, over-sized Mad Max cage contraption. Law-suits waiting to happen, I guess
Most people who cage their Raptor's have long travel (shocks coming out of the bed) and front mid-travel kits, wider stance, upper and lower control arms, bump stops, and stiffer leaf springs. These truck run over desert whoops at 80 plus MPH. So their performance far far exceeds a stock Raptor who goes 30-60 mph down a fire trail. Once you are hitting those type of speeds, the good off road shops will convince you for safety to get a custom roll cage. I am not adding a roll cage to my Bronco, but I am also not planning to keep up with a customized serious off-road Bronco or Truck. I am fine with some modest trails and keeping my speed reasonable within the limits of the vehicle.

If you are running the 500, a bolt in cage will never pass tech. You need a copy of the sanctioning body rule book and have your cage made to the specs for your intended class. FYI, the cage is going to be the cheap part of the safety systems required to compete.

You obviously haven’t seen people die in rollovers off roading before. If the roll cage that ford built was so good then the factory Ford racing Broncos wouldn’t have roll cages 😉
Well they updated everything else in the racing broncos which increases their speed and ability, so an upgraded roll cage would be needed. Just sayin

Shoot yea, if I were going 70+ over the desert I would want a roll cage, especially if I didn't upgrade my tie rod ends and steering rack, casue they won't last long. one bad hop, or landing and you will need it. You'd have to get welded for sure.

Serious question: Does your answer quoted above answer even your own question in any way?

I'm constantly confounded by the responses. That being said, if I go grab a bottle of Black Velvet and slug half of it, the thread might make more sense. Because everyone knows that hard A from a plastic bottle is the best (unless you're playing Edward 40-hands, but that goes without saying).
