Yes, use the axle with the spare and put the new tire there.
This is a situation that is my reason to not rotate a spare. I always have a newer tire to match up if - for me it's been when - something happens to one tire that's not repairable. Sometimes, I buy one tire to match the spare on one axle. Worst case, I buy three tires using the spare and put one of the less than new tires on as a spare and end with 4 new tires and a trusty spare.
That’d be the rear axle in my case, also seems the best one to use for a mismatch anyway.

Yeah my main concern is what behind the wheel got tweaked. It took a good chunk of the hit. Car still drives straight but will definitely test this out.
Be careful touching the hubs. I'd use a temp gun (cheap one from harbor freight) thos hubs can get 300+ degrees from the brakes!

Insurance is only going to pay for whats damaged. They dont care about your other tires. If its a reputable company you shouldnt have trouble getting the wheel or anything else taken care of.
