Hello all, i often transport my kayak in my soft top bronco and the end of it rest on top of the brake light above the 5th wheel. I wanna remove it as i feel transporting it this way will eventually break it anyway. Is it possible to remove this?

Pardon @Squatch 's lack of explanation, just pull out the sawsaw in your Bronco tool kit that was supplied and easy peasy!

kidding aside, check with your state/local laws as I believe the light is required. There is the oracle solution show below which you could explore as a replacement though:

Yeah, there’s like 6 bolts holding it to the spare tire carrier and a quick disconnect that will disconnect it from the rest of the harness - super easy to remove

As mentioned, do be aware of the law around third brake lights

I took mine off and replaced it with Diode Dynamics Reverse Light Kit

That looks awesome and much more convenient for my scenario! Is the install of that fairly easy?

I don't have any first hand knowledge on it but it does seem pretty straight forward based on BuckleUpButtercup's install video:

I’m proud of you, G mariachi. Helpin folks like we are supposed to.
@Squatch just hasn’t had his coffee and Oatmeal yet this morning. He’ll be right as rain in an hour or two.

Pretty easy - just open the rear cargo door, and slide the kayak out towards you until it’s fully out of the Bronco. Might help to have a friend assisting you.

I was up until 0400, lol. I just figured someone would look at it before asking.

@Cold summers - every Bronco or Jeep owner should take their spare off when they get it and see how easy/difficult it is to do under ideal conditions. After that, you'll have a good idea of what you may need to bring along out on the trail or even on the freeway because every minute less you spend on the side of the road/trail broken down could save your life... or at least significant inconvenience.

This is your NY law on it: https://dmv.ny.gov/forms/mv529.pdf

It basically says no lower than 6 inches below the rear window on convertibles and 3 inches on other vehicles. That is a lot of wiggle room but you do get inspected living behind the iron curtain so you may run across a jerk whom you cannot fight or argue with to get a gold star on your Bronco.
