I have a front-facing Garmin Mini 2 dashcam that I have mounted in front of the rear view mirror and powered by the auto-dimming mirror using the Dongar adapter. I am interested in adding a second Mini 2 somewhere in the rear of the car to record rearward video. There is a 12v port in the trunk on the passenger side so wiring and power does not appear to be an issue. Can anyone recommend a good mounting point for the camera including whether anyone makes a bracket for mounting it somewhere other than on the rear hatch glass itself? I would like to avoid having to attach or suction it to the flip-up tailgate glass if possible. Thanks in advance for any ideas or leads.

Thank you! Looks like that is just adhesive mounting tape. How is that holding on that textured plastic?
It's not my pic unfortunately but I try to avoid double sided tape when possible because it gets pretty hot here. If you can find a way to mount it using a bolt through that hole or something, I think it'd be better.

Mine is attached to the rear glass at the top middle. No issues whatsoever. Try it, you can always move it wherever whenever
Thanks! So even when flipping the glass down fairly hard, the camera and mount don't move?

Mine doesn't move. I never slam the glass or just let it drop. It's just something I don't do. I have a wolfbox with rear camera. Just leave a little slack in wire like the other rear window cables have and you're fine

Concerning the two sided tape on the rear glass, I use a BlackVue product. I have a 19 expedition and a 22 wild track with both products on the rear hatch as previously mentioned a little slack in the cable, which is very unnoticeable works well.

What if you want to take your top off? Do you just unplug the camera and let it stay on the top?
My bronco is my only vehicle, I don't take the top off
I took the top off my 88 bronco for summers, but I had another car then I could drive when it rained or I had to park in A bad area.
My life right now isn't set up for toplessness so I don't think about it.
But yeah, you can unplug the rear cam and it will stay with the top

I had the similar concern! Plus, i have a soft top!

I recently discovered that VIOFO has an excellent solution. I just purchased the VIOFO A229 Pro (1 channel) + the VIOFO RWC200 waterproof (designed to be mounted on the exterior) rear camera (i plan to mount it between the spokes of the spare tire)! Now, i will be able to remove The top or place it in any position without having to modify my rear camera mount! Nor will i have to worry about viewing footage that has been obfuscated by the tinted rear plastic window! With that being said, it doesn’t hurt that the A229 just happens to be the current top dog amongst Dashcams!

How did you mount the camera to the spare tire?

Difficult to explain but easy to execute! Keep in mind, that my choice of aftermarket wheels allowed me to have the perfect mounting position for this. Some wheels may not be optimized for this type installation.
These photos pretty much demonstrate the method that i utilized. There is no need to fabricate anything or any major mods (except drilling 2 pinholes on the tire carrier that are so small that you would never notice them if you uninstalled the camera later).

I love this! This is the camera my Uncle has and recommended. A couple questions;

How is the view for the rear camera? With the placement, I am curious if there is a "tunneling" from the aftermarket wheels.

How long of a cable did you get for the exterior camera?

I am considering this for my Bronco, but possibly down near the license plate.
