I think that carrying a full propane bottle unprotected on the back(or front) of a motor vehicle is illegal per the Texas Railroad Commission. I’ll add that I could be wrong.
I’ll check with my service manager tomorrow.

Psha- "unprotected"- it's mounted to the back of a Bronco! How much more "protected" could it be?!

Okay, I don't wanna kill the energy of this post because I love the idea...

Here's a link to propane cylinder requirements on campers. They just have to be placed and secured so that they don't get damaged while traveling. I'd be a little hesitant getting a mount of Etsy, but to each their own.

Propane is honestly quite difficult to ignight. The region of ignition is quite small (about 2%-10% in air). A younger me I "procured" a propane tank and tied it to a chain and drug it behind a 90's Bronco, totally expecting it to blow up like it does in the movies... It never did. So we took it out to the woods and shot it with a 30-6... Sparks and light and nothing... It tipped over and liquid spilled out to the ground and started boiling instantly... We were very confused. We took the tank, poured a 30-ft line and tried to light it with a soldering torch, but nothing happened... We did everything we could to get the damn thing to light. Nothing ever happened. We eventually got bored and went home, defeated and disappointed by Hollywood...

Many years and a few degrees later, I now know that propane has a very narrow ignition point. Outside of that, it's too lean or too rich and simply won't do a damn thing. What's one of the reasons we don't have propane tank explosions all over the place, even though we have it in almost every home.

Also, of interesting note, and EVERONE should know this, the EPA is phasing out HFCs. We use these as refrigerants in our AC units, refrigerators, or anything that requires cooling... The only approved replacement for HFCs are flammable gasses, like Propane, n-butane, and other bul$#it gasses like that. They will make it more hazardous to work with and significantly more expensive to maintain our AC units at home. Be ready to replace your refrigerators...

Nice - back before engineering economics was a thing and corporations didn't intentionally design in failure to increase profits. I truly hope that bad boy outlives us all. It likely will.
