Can anyone tell me how narrow a tire can be mounted on a Base Ford Bronco? My car came with 255x70x16. I like the Pizza Cutter concept and I’m wondering just how narrow a tire I can mount without jeopardizing ride, safety etc.
Thanks in advance.

Your Bronco has the 16" wheel with +55 offset. A 10" wide tire is about the widest one can mount on a +55 offset wheel without incurring rubbing on the upper control arm. The Base steelie wheel is narrow, not sure a 10" wide tire is recommended to be mounted on them even though you do have them already mounted.

If you are staying with 16's, 235/85-16 is as close as you're going to get IMO.

Many here are mounting >10” wide tires on the base steelies. 285/75r16 are just under 33” and a little over 11” wide.

265/75r16 (31.6”x10.4”) is also a little taller and wider than the stock tires on the base.

the aforementioned 235/85r16 (31.7”x9.3”) are the approx. the same height as the 265/75 but narrower.

I went with 255/85r16 (33.1”x10”) as they seemed proportionate to the bronco, and even though they aren’t as skinny as the 235’s, they are 1.5” taller so they still give that narrow “pizza cutter” vibe. IMO, on the steelies they give the utilitarian “grandpas reliable bronco” look that I was going for. Even though I’m in my early 40s. 😂

What you really want is a 255/85R16 which is roughly a 33”x10” perfect for the old school pizza cutter look (and very functional)

I was looking for this exact same thing for my base 2DR because the proportions are just right. Unfortunately a couple years ago the only options in that size were mud terrains and I didn’t want that with my 50 mile highway commute. It looks like now Falken added that size to the Wildpeak AT4W, I think you’d be very happy with that. I might buy these next when my Grabbers wear out

And for reference what I ended up going with is the 265/75R16 General Grabber about 31.5”x10.5” and it’s a great upgrade from the base tire.

Perfect. I'd vote for the 255/85s. They will look narrower than stock because they are taller, but will be more functional than the 235s. I had the 235s on a Jeep Rubicon because I didn't know 255/85 were available, and the 235s just seemed too narrow.

I now have 265s (31.7") on my Bronco but am debating on going 255 (33") to get a taller tire next time.

I wish that size had a better selection and pricing. There are some tri spoke Lodio 16x7s I really want and I think that would be the perfect size for them on a Bronco.

I have the 255/85/17 which has a great ride and look , no mods , no lift , Mickey Thompson Baja boss , great tire / quiet ride / great in the mud, I believe a comparable size on a 16" wheel would be 255/90/16

I have Kenda Cleaver 35 x 10 1/2“ tires on a 17 inch steel OEM rim. No clearance issues no rubbing, but I did remove the crash bars. THEY ARE EXCELLENT ON AND OFF ROAD so could be a good choice for you if you move to 17” wheels

Agreed. I’d like the KO3 in that size. But I’ve been looking at switching to a set of black diamond alloy wheels (17”) when my Falken M/Ts are spent. That would give me the option to stick with the 255/80 or maybe a 35”x10.5” like Kenda offers…

Or the elusive 255/85/17, a 34".
