Off-Roadeo in the rain...........???

We are scheduled to be at the Tennessee Off-Roadeo on the 14th of November.
The weather is forecasting rain for several days' prior, as well as rain for the 14th.

Any tips on attending the Off-Roadeo in the rain?
We are packing rain gear and waterproof hiking boots, as well as extra clothes.
I ask those who attended a rain event if there anything you wished I would have brought?
We don't getting muddy, but any suggestions are appreciated.

If the site is wet days before and the day of, I would get the optional insurance. Normally, I don't recommend the Off-Roadeo insurance as the likelihood of exceeding the $3500 deductible is pretty rare. But having attended a few weeks ago, there are trails that are steep and tight. With the slick mud, the chance of sliding into a tree is increased. I can think of the one trail that turns into the creek bed (mostly dry when I attended) where you have to high point the one rock. If your tire slides, you will hit the tombstone looking rock. @MadMan4BamaNATL posted video of the spot that I'm speaking of in his review thread.

If the trail conditions are too bad the guides will take another route or use a bypass - they don't want you to damage the vehicles and more than you do.

That said, it rained a bit during ours in Utah - nothing terrible though. A hat and a jacket was enough, but if it were pouring all day a raincoat and a change of clothes after the ride would be nice. Good boots are almost a must no matter if it's rain or not.

Great advice Ken… I have already paid for the insurance.

I had also paid for the insurance at the GT350 Track Attack in case it was raining, or someone hit me.

Yup. Did that mirror have the cameras and spotlights?

Edit: I almost always tuck my mirrors in. These Broncos are pretty wide and many of the trails are fairly narrow and often ridden by Jeeps. Nearly clipped my mirror on a tree on the Blue Rhino at Ol' Florida (location has since closed) a few years ago. Since then, the mirrors get tucked if there is any chance of them getting clipped.

That’s a good point. Our last trail was particularly froggy and if it were wet or muddy, would have made for an interesting day.

There are several areas that raise eyebrows in the dry, add some water or mud and you’re likely to be nervous the entire day.

@dpAtlanta Now, if any of this gives you pause and you would like peace of mind, yes, the $75 may be worth it to you. Also depends on how much experience you have off-roading. Nothing wrong if you don’t have much, the instructors gave a lot of guidance and tips and being in 4L will keep the carnage low.

It’s either your deductible or the $75. Don’t know if you can just pay $75 and have it cover both drivers, but I’d argue it for sure if I were to pay for it.

Honestly, wet or muddy wheeling is a Southern, PNW, and New England thing, so it being wet gives a more authentic depiction of what we do and how.

Since you asked of tips for wet gear wheeling, sounds like you’re conscious of it, so you’re more than 80% there. You’d be shocked to see some guys show up.

Only thing I never do if getting wet and cold is wear cotton; I mean at all.

Because I camp and hike, and ski a little, I have wool everything down to underwear and t-shirts. Wool keeps you warm when wet better than anything. I do use some synthetic gear too, but mostly for Summer.

Sounds like you have boots, etc for both of you, so you likely have everything else to go along with it as well. Wool socks, etc. Bring a backpack and have some ziplock bags or trash bags to keep sensitive stuff in, but you won’t be out in it for very long during the day, but there are several gather round moments, so basic rain gear should just about do it.

When I went to the NH Off Roadeo it had rained a bunch the week before. I think it made it more fun. The trails were slick, there were water holes and the Broncos muscled through. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Our Off-Roadeo experience was on a Rainy Day as well. It went off without hesitation. I could tell that they adjusted to fit the conditions, but I still walked away knowing WAY more about how capable the Bronco really is. We got hung up on slippery rocks a couple of times, but with the right guidance, the Bronco (practically) 'hopped' right out of the situation.

You are in and out of the vehicle all day and will get muddy (as will the interior), just make sure that you're prepared to keep your vehicle (relatively) clean with stuff to change into. An umbrella will not be helpful. Enjoy!

it rained while we were on the trail in TN , No Biggie . It did make it a little more interesting , but just Listen to the trail Guides . They will walk you through it

Well............. the rain was definitely a factor.
It had rained most of the night before then held an off/on mist upon arrival. We were glad it was not the 4 hours of rain predicted a week ago.

Our Trail Guide/ Instructor was awesome:

Chris must have logged 20,000+ steps as spotter, and he really knew what he was doing as a spotter...!!!

The rain kept our group away from some good hill climbs since we were the last group; the prior groups had muddied up the hill and we were left with no traction.

Chris however came through with other great trails and even got us on a new trail heading back to homebase. This new trail had never been driven by a guest group before, and we did it in the darkness. It was by far the most technical trail we did, and the most narrow trail we did all day.
