I tried a search but did not find anything.

Has anyone else with the I-4 noticed a noise (usually on cold start up) from under the hood that sounds similar to a dinging piece of metal bouncing around off something. It is not constant. It stops after the car runs a bit. I am having a hard time trying to describe the sound. But it is like a shitty sounding bell or something bouncing off a spinning part, like a pulley or a fan. It is so brief it is hard to track down.

Could be your starter. If you hear something like a ping on metal, as soon as you push the button, that’s what I’m thinking.

Could be a belt or pulley issue on cold start, or a tensioner/heat expansion problem.

I have noticed a sound at start-up, kind of like a "tink" metallic noise. It's very subtle and only lasts for about a minute or less. Maybe it is the wastegate like Brian_B said?

I know the wastegate has an odd sound on cold startup but I would describe it as more of a creaking sound vs a ping. A video of the sound would be helpful as everyone describes sounds differently!

My dad (who is a member on here as well) has this sound on his 2022 OBX 2.7L. He thinks it is the wastegate rattling. It does it sometimes on ignition off as well. The dealer told him it was something with the transmission or the wastegate. Don't see how it's the trans if its not in motion, could see it possibly being the starter, but I think he checked that. Either way they said it's "normal" and there's no codes, so unless the wastegate craps out or the trans falls apart they aren't going to fix it.

Yes, that is a good description. Like a tink tink tink long pause tink ... tink then nothing. My wife who knows nothing about cars and hears almost nothing I ever say was even "what's that sound".

I will try, but like all gremlins the bastard never speaks when a mechanic or a recording device is around.
