So do you send them your current steering wheel and they modify it (then you're left with no steering wheel for weeks), or are you buying an all-new steering wheel to swap out?
Part of the cost includes them obtaining an OEM wheel that they then wrap to your specifications.

I believe there are other companies that allow you to send in your own wheel if you'd like.

Just curious, wanna make sure I read this right; even though it's not presented in the initial options, I can have the LED shift light module added, right?

It was about $1200 with the custom stitching. Heated option would have been $300 more.

Pricey, I know, but it really looks/feels good.
If that also includes the airbag, the $1200 is a bargain. I wouldn’t even consider the swap if there is no sirbag which would be a violation of federal law. BTW, my heated steering wheel gets so hot that it needs to be turned off

I doubt it comes with an airbag. I think the one on my Chevy that Progressive changed eight years ago was $1800 plus install. Note that changing the airbag yourself may have ramifications, too. Progressive had a specialty installer do it because of the liability.

Very easy, you can find a couple of videos on YouTube.

The most annoying part is getting the airbag unit to disengage, you have to slide an allen wrench through a small hole on either side of the wheel to get the retention clips to pop open. You need to position the allen wrench at a certain angle to get enough of a "push" on the clips... again, not hard, just kinda annoying until you get a feel for it.

There is a single bolt holding the wheel down, uses a TP50 torx bit, torque it to 46 ft lbs.
No offense man... but what you're describing, in regards to airbags... kinda sounds like difusing a bomb! With my luck the bag goes off and I'd have to show up at work the next day with black eyes.

Should have mentioned you disconnect the battery first!

Violation of federal law to reuse the same airbag?

No. You're an end user. Any CFRs would be applying to the manufacturer.

No aftermarket steering wheel company with remotely affordable products is going to provide airbags, period, full stop.

They have all the shipping headaches as hazmat, the liability is insane, and there's literally no reason to when you can drain the capacitors, reuse the factory airbag, and recharge them on the next ignition cycle. Which is the same way that dealerships deactivate them for work on the steering column or wheel for service.

The real question is….does that replacement steering wheel have all the proper connectors to install the OEM airbag? I would suspect it depends on the vehicle manufacturer.

From my experience switching out steering wheels/airbags on other vehicles, you only use the OEM connectors for the airbags. They just swap from your old wheel to the new. But, if the aftermarket wheel manufacturer is providing the connectors, and are using OEM wheels as a base for their product, then they'd be using the original connectors anyway.

They only provide the wheel, which is OEM to begin with, just re-wrapped. You use your own airbag and connectors, so everything is OEM top to bottom.

I'm not sure - I would reach out to them directly, there are definitely more options available than what is on their site.
