Let’s just start with working properly. Change a song here or there. Then you go to Library and all you can get to is labeled as recently added at top of artist. The artist are from my library, but just a few. I can never navigate back to full library without resetting radio. I can see entire library on my phone while this is happening and even select a new song to play over car audio system. Except dash screen doesn’t update. Anyone else?

Wired or Wireless connection to carplay?

Assumption on my parts here, but very probable that has to do with regulations. To keep your eyes off the screen as much as possible. Vehicle manufactures have to balance what users want with the least amount of liability. And I don't blame them, with how easy it is to file lawsuits for nearly anything, in the USA anyhow.

Apple Music does this to me on Carplay - it won't show everything installed locally on the phone - I think they want you subscribed to their streaming service or something. I don't know why, and didn't spend a ton of time trying to figure it out. I kinda gave up on Apple Music and just use Spotify for my streaming (and it supports offline downloads), and when that isn't what I want I have my songs loaded on a USB drive for anything I have locally.

I agree, I think it’s a diminished interface to keep drivers eyes on the road.

With CarPlay you can only see a few artists or playlists while the vehicle is moving. If you stop you should be able to see all of the artists, playlists, etc until you accelerate again. This is how CarPlay is designed to work in Broncos. Not sure if this is the issue you are seeing but just wanted to add that info.

It’s an IPhone. Wireless. Never tried wired. And it’s not all the time. But most of the time. You reach a point on every trip where this happens.

Maybe. But it works when I leave and stops at some point later. And it returns when radio is reset and picks up where the phone currently is at in the library selection

Library is downloaded to phone on Apple. Not streaming.

Will look into this, but I can assure you it doesn’t work the way you mentioned it’s intended to work. Except when it does this.

I have this same thing happen in my Bronco and my wife’s BMW. My guess it’s an Apple thing not a Ford thing. Never been able to figure it out and like @Brian_B I kinda just gave up on trying to fix that specific problem. However I subscribe to Apple Music and If I’m looking for a specific artist or song I just ask Siri. I’ve also been making more playlists or getting the “essentials” playlists from specific artists I like. If you find the answer let the rest of us know!

My playlist work well. Except if I get to end of play list Apple just finds something else not in my library. Same goes when I reach end of album or shuffle through artists songs. I’ll make a point to track how I’m using it until issue starts. Today I just reached a point where I reached the WTF moment as I was riding shotgun while daughter drove and it began.

Could be related to this which I found on Apple support below. Which is somewhat like you describe.
On some systems, Now Playing displays only a partial list of choices while you’re driving. To choose among options not in the list, select More at the bottom of the screen, or use Siri by pressing and holding the voice command button on your steering wheel.
Doesn’t explain why it’s not always like this.
