Does anyone have pictures of Jerry rigging a tarp for the sake of shade or rain cover while camping with a soft top?

I know you "shouldn't" close your soft top with things sticking out so you don't wear down the weather stripping, but a tarp is pretty thin.

What I'm thinking is opening the soft top, attaching 2 corners of a tarp to somewhere on the roll bar with small hooks (similar to how a bimini top hooks on). Then pull the other end of the tarp outside and close the soft top on the tarp. From there the two corners of the tarp on the outside could be staked to the ground, leaving enough room for one or two people to sit under it in camping chairs.

Just a thought. Hopefully I explained my thought well enough for people to get the gist.
Icing on the cake would be to be able to roll it up and Velcro it down under the soft top so it would always be there.

I bought a tarp from Harbour Freight that fits decent on my 2-door Bronco. When the hardtop is off, I've used it several times in a pinch, and no leaks. The doors have to be on though with windows rolled up. It's held on by a few bungy straps.

I wouldn't want to use it in a lashing rain with a lot of wind, but it's saved me a few times when unexpected rains appeared or when I didn't feel like putting the hardtop back on.

On a 4 door hard top I use two marine suction cups to moibt on the front and back windows and then attach the ends of a 9ft long Harbor Freight tarp between them. I support the other two gromets with cheap poles from Amazon.

Something similar should work on a soft top, except that the rear cup goes on the sheet metal of the tailgate and you may need to use a bungee cord to secure that end of the tarp to it. Works plenty well for me in the desert. I use a mesh tarp to let the wind through and keep the tarp from turning into a sail on the often strong desert winds.

Like these better than the Chinese ones that use a sticky suction cup that is not easy to remove and leaves behind a mess.

The Oasis Trail cover does this and is purpose-built for it. Stays stored in its pouch on/behind the rear crossmember when not in use.
I am selling one on the member marketplace as are a couple of other people.
I went with an awning for my use case.

I ended up going with the X-Rack and an awning thanks to @BroncoA512021 for the suggestion.
I did take this out to Big Bend and posted my results in this thread:

You’ve got the right idea. Drape over hatch area on back, either stake out or tie off to wheels. I used roof rack also in this photo, but have since removed and tie off to wheels. Use retractable poles to hold desired corners or sides to your liking and tie off /stake down remaining grommets to guy lines. I’m using a 10x10 silnylon tarp and 4 pack of telescoping 8’ poles.
