I see that Ford is doing Bring Your Own Bronco (BYOB) events in Moab.

I am really interested in these, but I am concern about whether my Bronco will be good enough.

I have a 2024 2DR 7MT Badlands, with stock everything that actually matters. On the FAQ page, the BYOB implies heavily that you should have a SAS. Specifically, they say "if you don't have SAS or at least a 2" lift, then take off your running boards to avoid damage to your Bronco".

So, the questions are: has anyone done one of these events? Will I be able to comfortably do what they take you on, or will I be holding up the group and/or easily damaging my Bronco in trying to? What trail do they take you on?

I did the Moab Off-Roadeo last year, and they took us to, I think, "Half Dome". All the supplied Broncos were SAS of course, and they all did the whole thing without breaking a sweat. But, I really don't know enough to know just how breathing room those SAS had and if my Badlands, being just shy, will do fine or if it'll be a SNAFU.

Thanks for your input.

There are two answers here

You can run the trails just fine.

But you are gonna risk getting a scratch or a ding - that’s just part of off roading

So if you wanna run the trails - a Badlands will do 95% of them stock no problem. But you may bang a skid plate in the process - so don’t if you want your Bronco to stay showroom perfect.

That answer doesnt really change no matter how much lift or what size tires you run - there is always a bigger rock to roll over somewhere

When I did the Moab offroadeo I was given a 4dr non Sasquatch badlands…it did just fine but it did hit the skids a couple times (but I was kind’a trying to do that)…made me realize or reinforced that I would need a lift and bigger tires for the type of wheeling I planed on doing….you should be fine…

I have the same Bronco as you and I did the Moab Off Roadeo and then took my own rig to a bunch of trails for the next several days. So I drove their 2 DR SAS (Outer Banks?) back to back with my 2DR Badlands 7MT 2DR and I definitely preferred my non-SAS Badlands to the SAS while off roading on similar trails and terrain. You will have zero problems with your rig. If it were a non-SAS Base, that would be different. Your Badlands is more than up to the task.

ETA: the SAS adds a 2" lift and the Badlands without SAS already has 1.5" of lift. The tires on the SAS are 35s and Badlands are 33s. So there is a slight gain on clearance with SAS, but it's not crazy. And the narrower A/T tires are actually better for rocks than the wider M/T tires are (which are generally better in sand and mud than the narrower A/Ts).

We have a 2024 Black Diamond, non-Sas, and just recently completed the BYOB in Moab.. So, we did remove our running boards, but I'd recommend you have/keep rock sliders and any skid plates (our stock plates & sliders worked fine). We did touch/scrape on the bottom, and had to winch about a foot to a foot and a half to get through (their winch), but it was still worth it (ioho). And, like you, we did the Off Rodeo last summer. Lots of comments from our fellow participants about what they learned from our less-lifted efforts. Then we did Shaefer trail the next day, east to west, and it was awesome and no challenge technically by comparison. The coordinators (Dave & Blake) were great, and no body paint was damaged.

When we did BYOB in Tennessee, the instructor visually went over each participant’s Bronco. Very detailed. And the route was finalized after he knew what we all were driving. One family was in a Base model, non sas, no lockers. My guess is that the instructor selected a route that was doable for that set up because he did fine.

Just my experience…and guess. Go for it!

Same at Moab w/the pre-run inspection, air-down instructions and review of what to expect; presumably to limit what they'd potentially be liable for, but after running OffRodeo for 6+ years, they pretty much know in detail what the Sas lineup can handle and are allowing other trims in. They did let me know there's a good chance I may need the winch help, but thought I may make it through without. When that wasn't the case, winching was minimal.
