I would like to know what are the highest/maximum temperatures we can allow for the engine/transmission to reach before cooling down and what temperature is too hot where we would have to do an oil change.

Living in the desert, we have quite hot temps most of the year and ive noticed with my 2.7l Bronco, gets pretty damn hot (115 - 125 degrees celcius) on full load going up the dunes.

Have not been able to find any proper data on what is the maximum limits before you start damaging things.

This is the sort of terrain that she has to go through, lots of power needed on the way up and its always on the back of my mind that I may be putting too much load or heat on the engine.

Anything between 230-260F is normal for oil temperatures. Conventional oil will start to break down around ~275F. A quality full synthetic oil can probably withstand temperatures a little higher.

I’m not sure when ULV transmission fluid starts breaking down, but if it’s getting above 220F, I’d probably start to be concerned. Normal operation Is 206-215F

This may not be helpful, but if you look at your gauges there is a red area (signified by small red blocks)...

If you're approaching those, you're getting too hot :)

Thanks for the above. Good to know, I am within the limits.

Bronco should sit around 195 while running, would go up if you are really working it.

If it's in the "Green Band" you're good to go... ;)
