Kicker HS10 HELP!!

I already have the Kicker Key 200.4 amp with Kicker speakers installed. I decided to purchase the Kick Hideaway HS10 and wire harness on PlugNPlayKits.com (Kit 11-6). Got the sub hooked up using the PnP harness that's for the Key and HS10 with power running direct to the battery. They Key works fine, just like it did before the HS10 install. I have power to the HS10 but the problem is very little noise/bass, sometimes you can hear a little sound trying to play through the HS10. I have to turn the volume up to almost 20 to hear the slightest sound. It's definitely not sounding like it should. I messed around with the settings on the HS10 but there was no change in sound. Any suggestions? I'm also messaging PnP tech support for help. Thanks!

assume you have power to the hs10.

what is your gain set at? try bumping that.

if you are using the remote bass switch it has to be installed and a good connection or you will get results like you are having.

if modifying the gain on the box does nothing, then my next thing to consider would be if you accidentally tuned the Key 200.4 with the sub plugged in?

I wouldn’t think this would be the outcome from doing so, but doesn’t hurt to check

make sure remote bass (if using) connection is SOLID at both ends, too

Check the auto turn on switch (DC or remote +12v) and input level (high level speaker or RCA connection) for correct position with your setup. Also make sure you have a good chassis ground connection from the HS10 unit nearby! If all those are good maybe something with the crossover frequency setup with your other unit is off

Well this is getting beyond frustrating. I thought this PnP kit was supposed to be simple but it's turning into alot of work. I've been talking to Tech Support at PnP and he suggested doing what ya'll have pretty much suggested doing. I was running my Kicker Key and HS10 off the same 14 gauge wire from the battery. PnP Tech Support suggested using a 12 gauge lead wire and double check my ground wire. So I did that and now no sound from the HS10 and just a solid red light from the sub. Ugh...I guess I'll be talking to Tech Support tomorrow.

One would think you could test the wires at the sug side plug to determine what is wrong. Maybe the sub is bad... It's not like quality parts are abundant nowadays.

Testing power, ground, and remote triggers should be pretty straightforward. How to test to see if they signal is getting sent for the speaker inputs... Maybe someone has an idea.

My first inclination, while besides using a voltmeter on those wires, would be to hook up a regular speaker to the speaker inputs and see if there's any sound.

Put up some pictures of the settings on your sub amp, that way we can look at it and verify that you have all the connections made and the settings set. When I worked at a shop we would get do it yourself’ers that either set up their amps wrong or had the setting (gain, frequency, etc.) all wrong. So I would suggest you take pictures and post them so we can see what you have going on.

Honestly, you may want to call Kicker Technical support. I've installed a couple Hideaways with their help. They're very helpful.

If it makes ya feel any better, it took me several iterations before I was finally satisfied with my own HS8 install. It was much more simple on my ‘97 Tracker

I think I've got it figured out. The red light was steady on because my battery was low. I adjusted the settings till the blue light would stay on. I have the bass level knob all the up so I control the amount of bass. Let me know if these settings look right. Or if I should adjust up or down on anything. I listen to a variety of music so I just want it to sound good and be able to control the bass through the level knob. Thanks for the help.

The bass knob should be used to fluctuate more bass when you want it. The gain is you main problem, think of it as a valve and with it at zero nothing is going out.

Ok, I adjusted the gain. I got it at about 3/4. So far everything sounds really good. My only question is; I didn't hook up the blue wire. Should I connect that wire to an ACC fuse. I'd like the Hideaway to turn off when the Bronco is off. Is that what the blue wire is for?

The blue wire or remote wire is connected to a switched ignition. Some amps have signal sensing that turns the amp on when a signal is sent to the amp via the rca cables or via high input wires. If the amp is turning on and off with the vehicle already then you should be okay. If the blue/remote wire is coming from the harness then it should be wired to be hot or powered when the car is on, in that case just connect it to the amp so you don’t have a live wire loose.
