I have the factory rotopax mounts but they just have the one section for tightening. I just ordered the key locking mounts, looks like they have two sections, one for turning until it clicks on the can's dimples, then a second one to tighten. My guess is that once the cans are full of gas, it will expand and become tight but I want key locks so hope that solves the issue

Just my opinion but I believe some here are way over doing the amount of weight they are placing upon the rear tailgate and hinges. Maybe it's time for a roof rack or a hitch mount/alternate bumper mount system. You can thank me when those tailgate hinges peel off....

I think two 3 gallon rotopax cans of gas on the spare tire should be ok. If not, then I will spring for the tailgate reinforcement deal.

Mine requires spare tire delete. Not sure if that's where you're wanting to go. I wouldn't recommend my placement if you still have the factory tail lights. I had to put a door limiter on my tail gate and I've got Oracle flush mount lights.

Edit: I was unable to use the last bit of gas because I must have put some cheap ethanol stuff in it. I refused to pour rusty orange gas into my nice Bronco. Maybe plastic would be the way to go. 🤷‍♂️

Hey Eric, I just came across your post, and I am curious, is that jerry can holder one that you made or is it available for purchase from somewhere. This is the only one I have seen that works cleanly with a rear tire delete and is exactly what I am looking for.

I bought the holder from Swiss Link. I had to do some measuring and drill the holes to mount it on my hinges with longer screws.

Hi Eric,
Thank you for the link. I see that the back plate is 8.5" wide so your holes drilled to match the hinge bolt locations still fit easily within that 8.5"?
Does your jerry can holder now sit solid with no movement, and did you mount any rubber or anything between the holder and the hinges?
Appreciate your insights! :)

I was able to use 1 of the provided holes in the holder to start my pattern. The back plate width is more than enough to cover the 4 bolt locations provided by the hinges. I wish I had shifted it further left though, because it comes way too close to my taillight (Oracle) and probably would hit a factory taillight. If I could do it again I would make a backing plate to shift everything over a bit. It sits solid with zero movement, so I'll probably leave it like it is.

I used cone spacers (pictured below) that fit in the hinge mounting holes to keep from having the holder rub the painted hinges. I sourced longer flat head capscrews for counterbore holes from Fastenal.

One again, some great insights, particularly about shifting the holder over more to the left to ensure better clearance with the tail lights. This may be asking too much, but any chance you still have the links to the cone spacers and the longer flat head capscrews?
Thanks

What are your experiences loading the weight of a Jerry can on the hinge side of the tailgate? Is the tailgate reinforcement necessary with stock tires (35s) or would any of these Jerry can mounts provide enough structure to protect the tailgate?

The flat head capscrews are M8x1.25 by 35mm long. The cone spacers are for 8mm bolts and are 7mm thick. I actually purchased 5/16 cone spacers that were about 0.275" thick and they fit just fine.
