I was very enthused and excited about the idea of buying a 2drBronco Badlands, v6. I haven't had a new vehicle since the 93 Toyota which I recently sold for $250 less than what I bought it for..... but my excitement has died down over time...what is killing it for me are a few issues I just can't get arround.......18mph and 20 hwy mpg for the V6..REALLY that's abysmal!!!! a manual tranny would help. Get the MPG up to 24-26 hwy might change my mind,,,but 20 mpg is terrible. Then for me there is this complete push by the US government to go to EV's, what's gonna happen to gas prices??? Is the Government gonna cause gas prices to go up to push... Ev's on the population as a whole...I have a feeling they will. So buying a gas guzzling vehicle which has a power train which is being phased out just doesn't seem like a smart way to drop $50K on a vehicle....I just can't do it....If for some reason I change my mind it will still be there for me to buy, but since I own vehicles for a long time, I just can't see dropping $50K on something which is trying to be phased out......
It's seems like a good chunk of your decision is based on what the guberment might do in the future and the possible effect. First take your heart medication and try some breathing exercises. If that doesn't help, drive east to VA where weed is legal. Careful with edibles. It seems like they're not doing anything at first but tend to sneak up on you.

I like EVs and believe they're the future. Having said that, even the most ardent EV supporter in the gov understands that EVs are currently too expensive for most people and that the infrastructure isn't ready yet for everyone to charge from. EV adoption + infrastructure + government actions is going to take many years during which you can enjoy the F out of your Bronco.

On the future of gas prices….

The slooowww transition to electric vehicles will have a reducing effect on the price of gasoline. Simple supply vs demand economics. As demand decreases due to EVs, supply will decrease but not at the same pace due to fixed costs within the supply chain.

Second, the government is already doing all it can to inflate gas prices. Banning new leases on federal lands and shutting down the Keystone XL (not getting political, just stating facts) has cut off new sources of cheap oil causing oil companies to either utilize less efficient (aka costly) wells or import oil from the Middle East (at a higher cost due to logistics). The renewable fuel standard forces oil producers to buy environmental credits called RINs. These RINs are credits earned by renewable fuel producers (such as ethanol) to sell to oil companies if they do not achieve blending mandates. The cost of these RINs have more than doubled over the last year, a cost that is passed through to the consumer.

So, not much else can be done to make it any worse for us gas burners.

Yeah these thing impact gas prices but the cost of oil floats on the public market so even when the US is producing massive amounts of oil that doesn't immediately translate to lower gas prices since foreign governments can reduce their output and impact our gas prices. The solution to cheaper US gas goes beyond us just pumping more.

It does indeed. I tested it out on a drive from Nashville to California. Premium not only wakes the engine up to 300HP from 275, but I measured 4 to 5 additional MPG repeatedly. over nearly 4000 miles. I am an OCD cheapskate, so if I tell you that I will never run anything but premium gas, it should mean something. Not to mention the added swoosh factor!
Wow. I don't care about the extra power, but it the mpg is that much better it more than offsets the extra cost of premium.

Yes, but the price of crude is only one small part of the cost you see at the pump. Most of what I cited causes an increase in the produce of gasoline at the pump regardless of the price of crude on the open market.

I think you are correct this is not the vehicle for you. Go buy a hybrid Camry.
This forum is full of people who have never ever owned a real truck in their life, sorry that 4 runner is not a real truck. Real trucks use to get 10 mpg highway or city. They had giant v8s that made less power than the v6.
This is a 5,000 full Frame truck shaped like a brick with gearing in the 4's. 18 or 20 is phenomenal! My F150 gets 15 mixed driving, 3.5 twin turbo. It weighs 5,000 lbs. But it can out tow a 2000 Super duty and out run most classic era muscle cars.
Probably you should move to an island and ride a motor scooter us Americans want our gas powered cars and trucks so we can drive wherever and whenever we want.
Go polute the earth with a tesla and get your power from a coal powered plant.

I am COO with anyone getting any vehicle they want its their money, But don't go on a vehicle specific website and write nonsense for reasons your not getting a Bronco. Don't get me started on the MPG thing either, buy a sedan if you want good MPG. More HP = less MPG its just that simple you can't have bother. For all you electric car people out there its about 22,000 to 24,000 for battery change and they last less then 10 yrs. Do the math Gas is cheaper and for you climate people, that electric doesn't just make it self ok done with that rant
I think your a little high on your replacement cost of the battery. Tesla, for a full battery change with parts and labor is approx. $12,000. That’s after the 8 year 100,000 mile warranty on the battery. Your entitled to your opinion on electric, however I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bronco went all hybrid and electric with no ICE engine in the next 5 years.

While I personally don’t think going all electric on every vehicle is viable in the US. I certainly think there is a case for hybrid, which allows for more TQ, better fuel economy and increased range.

New technologies are coming out constantly which will only improve on this, while also hopefully making battery technology lighter and more environmentally friendly.

I used to understand (in the 80s and 90s) that I would almost certainly get better than the highway rating on the highway and less than the city rating in the city. EPA ratings seemed to have been dropping over the past 10-20 years despite pushes for higher fuel economy.

Part I think is the way they rate, but from my observations actual experienced fuel economy is dropping. I see vehicles have generally gotten bigger which I am sure is part of it, but then they go thru major efforts to save weight and still come up with poorer fuel economy.

I suspect that maybe safety standards have been pushed so that they need to be more massive (doors thicker, sides higher with windows shorter) and maybe emissions standards have hurt, but less certain. I know emissions standards hurt for a time but with the closed loop EFI systems emissions got really good and fuel economy was also good, but sometimes squeezing a out every last bit of pollutant can have disproportionate effects on efficiency which brings down fuel economy.

I’m American and look forward to better hybrid technology. I also have no interest in moving to an island. Odd that you are so against a technology that would only make your vehicle better. Just look at the F150 hybrid which gets 24/24 mpg and can power a house with its on board generator.

The first few things you mentioned were around the cost of oil.
