I actually took one out for a test drive before getting my Raptor as I was scheming about if one could end up being an interesting option to lease given the IRA cap cost reduction and reasonably big rebates hitting them currently.

My overall conclusion was that while it was really cool, the width combined with the insane weight (which you really felt, especially when hitting the brakes) was borderline terrifying for everyday usage.

Yes, the Raptor is wide, but since the width is more in the fenders than the body itself, parking generally is not an issue. The Hummer is just MASSIVE across and I could see being able to even open your damn doors to get in and out in tighter parking lots being downright impossible.

Braking literally reminded me of when I last drove a 15 foot Uhaul truck. Add in that it would take you close to $200 to DC fast charge one on a roadtrip with the insane battery size and "No Bueno" was my conclusion.

I'd be terrified to take one offroad also after reading both of these:

Seems like the suspension is definitely not up to snuff.

Mine may not be a popular opinion, but I have found that most people who criticize the Hummer, and say, "I would never...", are the same ones who couldn't afford it in the first place. Most have "closet envy". Sorry if it hits too close to home for ya.

I think it's pretty on brand you saw it in Houston. I saw the first one at the valet at Herman Hospital back in February. It was a matte black? Impressive looking (I think they kinda look like a Bronco up front), but I don't want to daily drive a cement truck.

The one I saw was white but agree at first glance from a distance my first thought was Bronco with the light up lettering on the grill.

I saw one at the Chevy dealership when I went to get a part recently and as I drove up straight on the grill, I was like, WTH is THAT?! My brain didn't read HUMMER and I thought someone had some jacked up Bronco. I think it had a truck bed? They look really bling, shiny.

My dad had an H2 and two H3's back in the day. They're nice, but just too large and I think those got like 9mpg... lol He sold them because he tired of $100 fill ups.

Yes, they are available as a pick-up (the original one) or a SUV which has a shorter wheel base (and generally better proportions in my opinion).

They are somewhat "blingy" but get a bit less so depending on how you option them (the offroad package is basically a $10K stand-alone option which makes them more capable supposedly and also tones down the blinginess some).

One of the upper level brass at my company has one. It looks fine, but as an electric car it is completely useless aside from getting him from his home to work. There are at least half a dozen that have been sitting at the local GMC lot for a long time.

Had one on reserve since 2021. Canceled it though. I love how they look (and especially the interior). I need something with more range though in the end (or something that just lets me stop at a gas station).

I'm hopeful for the Scout.

Hummer EV range isn't the problem with it rated at 300+ miles pretty much regardless of the setup, but the efficiency in conjunction with the massive battery is a pretty tough pill to swallow for long distance trips.

If you can use 350 kW chargers, the Hummer EV has been known to hit some of the highest charge rates out there with sustained pull at over 200 kW for most of the charging cycle.

Whats rubs me the wrong way is that DC fast charging a 205 kW battery at $0.50 per kW (or more) is a mind bogglingly expensive prospect for road trips with each "fill up" potentailly costing near $100. Truly an honor when it will likely take you 30 to 45 minutes to charge the beast up also.

The Scout with the range extender is going to be an interesting option for sure. Only bummer is that I already am out of my EV6 GT lease the end of 2026 and it sounds like the Scouts are not going to be out till at least 2027.

Maybe the wannabe overlander of tomorrow will be seen strapping several massive ass lithium batteries next to his unused traction Boards instead of roto cans
