I seem to recall being told that it can be added as an aftermarket feature and it's not regulated by the computer when done that way. Is there any truth to that?
It’s not an official Ford aftermarket part so there’s no support or anything, but you can buy one and just wire it to an upfitter

For a Badlands with an existing one though - I’ve heard it throws the Service Now code if you try to do that. Not sure if people have figured out an easy way around it. I think someone swapped to a Wildtrak 4WD module and got it to clear maybe?

I added one from a Braptor, Swapped the original e-disco from a FE into Wildtrak....used auxiliary switch. worked flawlessly at any speed.

I saw where you did this. I would love to have a program fix, but with all I want out of mine this probably ends up the smartest route.

100%. Even when not needing max articulation, like when driving down a rough fire road or desert wash, the improvement in ride and handling with the front sta-bar disconnected is very noticeable. I love it. But like many things (spot lights, camera views, etc) it has annoying speed and mode restrictions because it has to be safe for the idiots out there.
A little off topic, but I have my mirror “zone” lights wired up to an aux switch
