There's a thread on the other site about deer alert whistles. The consensus there is that they work. Anybody have experience with those things? And how fast do you have to be going for the whistles to generate enough sound?
Anecdotal but my dad always ran them, and stuck them on anything I drove without asking, living in rural MS, neither of us hit one over the 20+ years we lived in that area. Others did frequently. I'm in the city now, but if I was still rural, I'd run them just in case.

Sounds like a great idea. I live in a suburb with few deer, but when I get a Bronco soon it'll be going to deer habitat a lot.

I've had close calls in the past in other vehicles. One time a deer even collided with the side of my truck. I caught a glimpse of it, heard a thump, but there was no significant damage and no deer.

I haven't read any of the comments including the original post, I just read the subject and my first thought was...

"Don't do that!"

Thank you all for the bits of information. I have a quote from my insurance. Talked to a local body shop. They are going to try to repair the fender first before doing a paint job. If they can it will cover my deductible! I know some of the modular bumper will be replaced, do you think it's worth keeping this old bumper (a little bent) and seeing if someone wants it on the cheap or is there no market for a very semi bent modular bumper without the parking sensors....

Keep in mind the insurance companies are not just estimating the price of the parts and labor. Due to Broncos being popular not coming out as quickly as other vehicles this causes a weight for replacement parts. Sometimes many months. This waiting cost money and that money is added to the estimate hence the very high price for repair. Coparts, one of the insurance companies biggest sell-off auctioneers of we had to buy it totaled companies. Get most of the Broncos that have what would be considered relatively minor damage before. So even though it may not seem to be a major event it's still going to be high enough that you're going to be willing to pay the mere $500. I would love to be wrong in my assessment but as they say opinions are like assholes and they all stink. Good luck to you I hope it works out however you want it to work out.

Coming full circle on this, was able to have the body shop do the fix without painting. He replaced parts of the bumper and then tapped out the fender (used some heat) and realigned the fender, and piece under the grill. I am beyond ecstatic as he did it all within the payout of the insurance company (I didn't have to pay my copay).

Those spots are from snow melting that we had the other night.

Knock on wood, I got lucky on a 2 lane road at night in Montana. Saw the deer a couple hundred yards up ahead, laid on the brakes and steered to the other lane. He was looking right at me. At the last second he turned and walked back in front me in the other lane. By then I was almost stopped and just bumped and pushed him to the side. He rolled and got back up.

man was I lucky….. deer whistles went on and reviewing a bull bar next
