I like your posts about lighting because it highlights the old generation vs the new generation of guys with all the electronics in todays vehicles. You younger guys seam to like all the modules, ecms ,bcms and all the other cms LOL. Us older guys like simplicity, most of us prefer that over modules controlling all most everything.

Vehicles driving mostly on highways have a safety valve when they break down on the highway, it's called a cell phone. Now lets change the situation to 20mi out in the mountains, at the bottom of a canyon and no cell or gps service, now you have problems, big ones.

I haven't ran to a situation like that yet but have come close a few times. To this threads topic. with the exception of the factory led headlights on my bronco all my other lights, fog, pod and driving lights are wired directly to the batt. and have dash mounted switches. If one set, lets say the fogs go out because of a bad relay and I really need to have them on, I could hot wire them directly to the batt, presto they are back on.

This post is not intended to criticize you or anyone else here but I will point a finger at the manufactures. They in my opinion are to blame for the computerization of todays cars. Take my bronco for example, I like led lights the white light really helps these old eyes of mine BUT is it really necessary to make a headlight with looks like a module inside it to turn on the high beams with a replacement price of $1600.00 Is that really necessary ???

All of my lights are connected to switch as well... instead of 8 different rocker switches they go to a switch panel that has 8 outputs. Same concept.

Also, how old do you think I am :)

Relays are $2 not $1600... so not sure I understand what you're saying there.

On our Bronco we had the following setup

Factory Fog Switch: SS3 Max Fogs
Switch 1: Amber Driving
Switch 2: White Driving
Switch 3: SS5 Crosslink on Bumper
Switch 4: SS5 A-Pillar Lights
Switch 5: SS5 Roof Lightbar
Switch 6: Reverse Kit
Switch 7: Amber Backlighting
Switch 8: Air Compressor

On our F-150
Switch 1: Turns Grill Lights + 50" Roof Light Bar on as Strobes
Switch 2: Roof Light Bar
Switch 3: A-Pillar Lights
Switch 4: Grill Lights
Switch 5: High Beam Activation Circuit
Switch 6: Reverse Lights
Switch 7: Rear 50" Light Bar
Switch 8: Turns on Rear Light bar + reverse lights as strobes
DRL Switch: Turns Amber Backlighting on the SS3's in the grill

He's talking about how the replacement headlights for the Bronco are $1600, each!

Source: I hit a deer a few months back and the headlight was actually over $1700!

I hadn't thought about this, but putting the intelligence in the headlight is a really terrible idea, since headlights are the first to go in most accidents. I wonder if it was done purposefully to make the replacement cost higher, because there really isn't any other reason.

what intelligence is in the headlight? If you break a headlight it doesn’t effect other things

also the form headlights are $1299 for a pair and are better performing over the factory so why replace a broken factory one at $1600 when you can get better ones for $1299 for the pair

I had to go to your web site and look at your bronco WOW the only we have in common is the are both rag tops LOL, i'm assuming that yours is for advertisement along with practical use. If I had the need with all that lighting, trust me I would have it, I bet that wasn't a 5min. wiring job either.

Age? my bad I was trying to compare age with mine, turning 78 in 34 days. Wish I could call myself still young but it ain't happening, those days are long gone. Your wiring is similar to mine except a whole lot more lights.

Lights wiring, 3 switches, 1 for the drivers,1 for the pods the 3rd switch is a master to cut power to the other 2 switches. I do a lot of forest service road driving, blind corners crooked roads and not wanting to blind on coming rigs I need to be able to kill those lights at once. A 4th switch is for my fogs so I can use them separately from the other lights.

Thats all the lights I need, drivers and pods give me good lighting from the doors forward, nice thing to have with moose in the woods, no desire to hit one of those. The fogs are more for low road light than fog, that's why they are white. Come around a blind corner meet someone with high beams on on a narrow road has saved my hide more than once.

Mine and your lighting needs are different, that's fine I wouldn't want it any other way. Car manufactures ?? I still have my beef with them LOL.

I mean it's not like I'm 20 lol.

So yeah most of the lights on my truck are for show. Once upon a time when I started my business and had a day job I had a guy I work with ask me "what's with all the lights, do you actually use any of them" and i said "nope, never" because honestly I never do.

However outside of the roof lights and bumper lights YES I did use the fogs and reverse kit. And the rest was setup for fishing at the beach (growing up here on Long Island it's in your blood)

The fogs I used daily but the driving lights, yeah never actually used them. I also never drove around with the backlights on either.

here is the rear which is where all the "actual stuff I used" lived

The Bronco was mainly a demo truck for us, which is why I sold it a year or two ago. It sat outside the shop except sometimes when I'd take it home. With 2 kids (both in car seats at the time) it didn't leave a lot of room for their stuff if we went on an adventure. So my F150 was my daily driver.

But yeah... soft top. I'm going to do a hard top when I get another one as I want to do a roof rack.

Sold it?? Darn I was thinking you need to bring it out here to Nth. Idaho then I would help you test the paint job and decals. Good roads here just have to push the brush out of the way to get threw. Then there is a place called Denver creek trail, we could have taken it up that trail, not mine though too ugly for me LOL. Several youtube vids on it, just type in Denver creek.
