Got a major problem. For Father's day my oldest son along with my wife bought me some Amp power steps for my new 2023 Bronco Wildtrak. Here where it gets bad. My son took it upon himself to do the installation he is 19.
I got home from work and of course he showed me the surprise. Opening and shutting the door. Everything looked like it should and worked
But when I started it I immediately got 2 errors which I have never seen before.
1. Blind Spot System Fault
2. Cross traffic System Fault
What could have caused this. I did a inspection and he has broke the lower panel on the drivers side and the wiring into the FoMoCo DCU FDR BRONCO DRIVER looks bad. He broke the purple with orange wire then wired it back And taped its. The grey and orange he taped it up. Everything works the steps. It runs correctly just the two error messages. Help. I want to rip his tail but I'm just sick to my stomach about all this. Can anyone help me out.

Do you have a way to read DTCs?? Scan tool, Forscan, FDRS, whatever. Need to see what the modules are complaining about.

Also, I know it’s kinda bleak right now and this will probably be somewhat annoying to read… but props to your son for attempting this install. Most people would be completely unwilling to even attempt this, so I’m actually kind of impressed.

I actually have Forscan on my laptop. I had just downloaded it to turn off the seat belts. And a few other things. I'm not very good with using it. Yes all he has ever wanted to do is be a mechanical or Automotive Technician. But I'm extremely upset embarrassed but proud. Could it be in this module I posted pictures

Could be.

After Forscan is connected, on the left hand side there should be a yellow triangle. If I’m remembering correctly that button says “DTC” but could be wrong.

That should list out all of the codes the vehicles has.

I got up this morning about 4am. I knew my son would be asleep till at least 8. Went over it all the purple wire had came loose from being cut. I took time and properly soldered all the connections and wrapped it up. Everything is perfect no more codes. Have appeared.
Thank you

I suspect your problem lies in the spliced, taped & exposed wires illustrated in this pic. RTFM for the Amp steps and redo the wire connections (with the battery disconnected) and see if the errors clear once everything is properly connected. Good luck!

And, kudos to your son for his thoughtful gesture. While this is certainly a PITA for you, it can & will get fixed & ultimately, your Bronco will be fine.

BTW - Happy Father’s Day!

Yes the purple wire had separated from where he cut it in half. I got up before he has this morning at 4am. And took it apart and soldered the connections and shrink wrapped it. He will never know something was wrong and I hope it instills his desire to achieve his goal as a Ford factory mechanic technician.

Glad you got it squared away - looks like you posted your solution 2 minutes before I posted my suggested fix.

After just doing this myself last week . I will give your Son MAJOR kudos for attempting this . My 23 yr old wouldn't even think about it . That being said , tapping into those wires was the worst part of the install. I actually unplugged the harness from the module , and it was still a Major PIA .
They are Nice when done
