I have searched for a bit here in the forums... has anyone attempted to dissemble the rear hardtop panels? removing the actual window/sides from the top piece. Clearly they are put together from multiple sections.... but has anyone taken one apart? I am thinking that i would like to "make" a hardtop panel that does not include the side or back windows.... more of a project/concept that i would like to try....

On a regular hardtop, A saw or hammer is the only way you are taking it apart. The windows are glued in. On a Heritage the windows and gunners hatch come off.

Even if you were to get them off I'd wonder about the structural integrity as I'm guessing the design depends upon the glass for rigidity. Without the glass I'd fear it would be kind of floppy and, let's face it, there's enough issues with cracking and whatnot on these things as it is. IME, though, with enough beer and stubbornness one can take apart almost anything - though there's frequently an inverse correlation between the volume of beer and the ability to reassemble.

Rather than tearing it all apart, why not make solid panels to replace the glass? It would give you the look you want without compromising the structure of the top.

sorry if my original post was confusing.... i am planing to remove the sides and back completly.... not just the windows. i only want to keep the top panel part as a template/start of a hard shell "safari cover".
