I was able to find a 4 door oem hard top at the end of last summer for $1000. This will be my first summer with it. I would like to swap to the soft top for the entire season. I would like to get a hoist. I have about 12 foot ceilings in my garage. I would like to store the soft top in the winter as I have the foam that comes with it when you buy dual top (from hard top seller)

I've found 2 main ones

Smarter home (the way this one holds the top seems to put a lot of pressure on the seals)

Lange

Is there much reason to go to one over the other?

2 questions:

Do you store your panels up with it?
Have you had any issues deforming the window seal?

Harken hoister. (Pulley system type lift)
I haven't installed mine yet, but a buddy uses one for his much heavier truck cap and it works great.
You can lift it with one hand.

I have the Harken lift for my wooden rowboat, and it is very well made. If the lift for the hardtops is different (and it may be), I can't vouch for it, but Harken products are top grade (at least for boats).

Haven’t installed or used it yet. I bought based off my research and many recommendations in other posts on this subject. All positive from those that have used it

I store my panels separate in on the ground in the bags. And I use a small section of a pool noodle to prevent window seal deformation from the nylon strap.

I have the Harken Hoister for Bronco/Jeep tops and it's of exceptional quality. Because of the 6:1 pulley ratio I can take the top off / reinstall by myself with one hand on the rope and the other hand guiding the top into place.

Harbor Freight hoist 440 LB rated, some 2x6 boards, 4.5 inch lag bolts, (2) 8 foot long straps, couple pulleys, and good to go.

This is exactly what I did, along with the rest of the top panels. Harbor Freight Electric Winch with two 10 foot straps. In the winter I put my soft top on a sheet of plywood and hang that from the hoist. Lemme know if you want a pic?

I have the Harkin and it works great. I have a spare top that I bought one of the generic Harkins like this and it is identical as far as I can tell but much cheaper .

The Harkin I just ran the lines under the top from front to back and have pool noodles at the seals. On the generic one I hooked the front ropes into the mounting plate and the rear to the strut plates so it would lift it by those factory brackets. Seemed to work fine and a little bit easier to rig.

We just used a Harbor Freight hoist and some ropes. Easy peasy!

Harbor Freight hoist with a custom lifting basket, then supported by a floating shelf to take weight off the actual hardtop.
