About 6 weeks ago I bought a 2026 4 Door Badlands with a painted hard top.
Love my new ride, and I fully expected small rattles, noises, etc. - all the things that come with driving an off-road machine as a daily driver. I've had the hard top on and off probably 3-4 times now with no issues whatsoever. I've even lubricated the seals lightly thanks to some advice from these forums.
I put the hard top back on a couple of weeks ago and all was fine. Over the last few days, a new rattle developed when rolling over small bumps in the road (like, manhole covers or lane reflectors small). It's not like the rest of the rattles / shakes. It's a high-pitched, annoyingly frequent rattle (like the sound of one of those metal baby rattles) coming from the driver side B-pillar area. It's loud enough that I can hear it over the radio when at talking volumes, but low enough that I can drown it out with the radio at 11-12, which, unfortunately is too loud to cruise around at with my 2 and 3.5 year old kids in the car.
I've somewhat isolated the issue to having to deal with the clamp latch on the middle hard top section right above my head. When the clamp is latched, the rattle happens, but when the clamp is unlatched, there is no rattle. The clamp latches nice and tight - no extra or less force required than any of the other clamps that don't have this problem. I've tried shaking or moving the clamp when it's latched and unlatched and it's rock solid - no movement from the clamp, the latches, the top, nothing. The normal culprit of the locator pin seems firmly secure in the pin hole when the clamp is latched and unlatched. Additionally, the locator pin itself is already rubberized (something that may be new for the 2026 models), so I very much doubt that locator pin is the problem.
Anyone have any ideas? I thought I'd ask here before taking it to the dealership, because I'd rather be gaslit on the internet than gaslit in person...
