First of all, I know there are tons of threads in general abotu hard top popping and creaking. I've gotten that grease to lube the seals, as well as tried the heat shrink on the little posts.

I've noticed that if I push the little latch for the front passenger top closest to the windshield, all noises go away completely. That latch is by far the loosest of all of those style latches (the ones that rotate around, not the one that works like a clamp). I thought maybe the screw was loose and it couldn't get enough "purchase" on the little bracket to hold the top down, but the screw was as tight as she gets.

I'm wondering if anyone has noticed this, and whether they've found a way to shim it or something so that its a little more secure. After doing the heat shrink on the alignment posts... its actually popping worse... if I push on the little rotate clamp... things are way better.

In my Bronco, the pooping goes away if I turn the latch you're talking about by the slightest amount so that it's not fully "closed" but it's just a few degrees from it. Maybe you can try that first to see if it helps?

The pooping goes away?! That could lead to a problem in just a couple days…

I had the same issues with my Hardtop. I took it to the dealer. Under warranty, they adjusted the tension and alignment of the front panels, and added stick-on felt in between the rotating latches and their catch points throughout. It went away after that. I still have a latent squeak when driving on washboard roads, however.

If you comb through the 6G threads, you'll see lots of reference to Krytox lubricant for rubber seals; it's what the dealers use. It's effective, but stupidly expensive if you want to buy some for yourself. I tiny tube is $61 (CAD) on Amazon. A great alternative is AC Delco Silicone Emulsion. Its specifically for this purpose, and its cheap. Works great for the common "styrofoam squeak" you'll hear from the tailgate where the rear window rests against it. Here's link to what it looks like.

I will warn you, the hardtop roofs will always make a certain amount of squeaking and creaking. They're modular, and it's unavoidable. At first it was really aggravating that my brand new $65k Bronco was making noises like this, but honestly, I got over it. Everything else works amazing.

There are a couple of aftermarket hardtop solutions, and It looks like they are well received. Here's a couple links.

I hope this helps!

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.
