Gear oil smell inside

2023 Blk Diamond. 2.7 SAS… no drips on garage floor, no obvious signs of leaks underneath… its a very distinctive odor,,,cabin filter new, any thoughts?

Powertrain is 5/60, so if it is gear fluid you're likely still covered under factory warranty.
I understand not wanting to trust certain dealers, but all you're going to get on here is a bunch of random guesses from people that can't smell it lol

I've found when a smell gets in the A/C, it can stick around for a while somewhere in the A/C itself. You might change the cabin air filter perhaps, or drive it with the air on high maybe? I dunno, but I've had some strong smells hang around for up to a half hour (including a strong gas smell) that were unexplained and eventually dissipated.

Lots of truth to this. A few months ago, I drove by the scene of a bad accident (police were directing traffic). There was oil on the ground and there had clearly been a fire. For the next week, my vehicle smelled like burning oil any time I turned on the heat or A/C. I even pulled over at one point to inspect everything because the smell would get stronger at times. It eventually dissipated.
In addition to that... I have pulled apart many dash assemblies over the years. You'd be surprised how much oily residue pools in various places (more/less depending on the design, use, etc) in dash ducting. Smells and odors have mass, and that mass collects somewhere. Think about it this way- if you burn a candle in your home, eventually you're left with an empty jar. Where did the wax go? (A: Thin residue on your ceiling, walls, and every surface). This is also how the camphor block trick works in your toolbox.

Yup this is going on a week, common sense (?) tells me something is leaking, seal maybe, but tnx

Do you happen to have a mishimoto catch can installed? If so, that's your smell issue. I have one installed and vapors will permeate the rubber hose and cause the issue since the can is located near the air inlet for the dash. Relocating the can will help.
