The dent doesn't look that bad, but the impact that caused it certainly could have jarred or bent the float up in there.

That said, no scratch marks, so @bf4445 may be right, that may just be dimples from the factory or where the bolts are touching from your skid plate or supports. My fuel tank looks like a pack of wolverines used it as a scratching post.

And that the reason I suggested you take it to the dealer. This is a Bronco, designed for use in rough bumpy conditions and engineered to handle these conditions without falling apart. Its well documented how hard Ford beat up the prototypes testing under torturous conditions. That float assembly most certainly should be built strong enough to handle anything you can dish out. You could start a thread to see if others have had the same issues.

I see both your points. Good idea, I’ll give it a try - another exciting dealer visit!

After another off-road trip, I lost another two gallons on fill up. Decided to take off the gas tank skid and it was severely warped. Went back to gas station and got all the lost gallons back.

The aluminum skid was sufficient for a few years but as I've gotten into more serious wheeling it's time to replace with steel.

Or do myself if they don’t - I have half dropped the tank, to put armor on, is it easy to pull out all the way and put a sending unit in?
When you dropped the tank was it dented then? The dent could be changing how the tank is sitting too.

It was not permanently deformed. Removing the skid resolved the issue, so I presume the plastic tank was deforming elastically under the stress of the bent aluminum skid.
