How BIG is your fuel tank?

And what is the max fuel you ever added to your 4-door? Stated fuel capacity on the 2021 (maybe all years) 4 door is 20.8 gallons. I filled up the other day with gauge showing 15 miles til empty, which "should" mean around 1 gallon left. Nozzle clicked off promptly and I never add more after that as it causes havoc with the vapor containment system and charcoal containers, but that aside, I was shocked somewhat when I ended up with OVER a half gallon more than factory spec for a freshly built vehicle that had no other fluids added. Yes I understand that the tank itself may be 20.8 as spec'd but i would actually think that the 20.8 includes all hoses on the fill side plus lines between tank and engine but my first thought is that the county weights and measures department is long overdue to test this pump (and I plan on reporting it as charging for more gallons than are actually pumped is a crime)

IN any event, has anyone topped 21.3 gallons or waht is the most you have ever filled?

Listed capacity should be roughly 80% total liquid capacity of the tank which leaves room for vapor expansion during warmer temperatures. If the vehicle is not perfectly level it can allow extra fuel to be added. Generally the fill hose enters a vehicle tank slightly below the highest point which allows the hose to fill with fuel and activate the shutoff on the pump faster than the trapped air can escape back up the fill hose.

I have never exceeded 20 gal and today with 30 miles to E i was shocked to put 19 gallons in my 22 4dr Badlands. So I took a picture thinking my pump may be off ad well and checked the forum to verify tank size. With gas mileage 16 mpg that would give me two more gallons if empty (21.19 gallons). Take it for what its worth.

I never run my fuel level that low unless it’s an emergency or necessary.

Don’t know if it’s true but mechanically speaking it seems sensible but the fuel in the tank helps cool the electric in tank fuel pump! I ve heard this from more than one professional mechanic too.

Obviously summer time heat would seem to be more critical than winter temps but Food for Thought ….

This is most new fuel injected vehicles that require high fuel pressure… not just a Bronco related comment.

First fill-up was at Costco, it took 20.x gal with 55 miles of range left. I thought that was odd and expected it to only take 18 gallons or so. 2nd fill-up was at Exxon today, 75 degrees outside, 11 miles of range left, it took over 22 gallons. Weird since it's supposedly a 20.8 gallon tank. Drove it 30 miles and range is over 400 miles still, getting 20.2mpg with worn out sasquatch tires.

I doubt these pumps are wrong since my Foresters always take the amount I expect, about 13 gal when the gas light comes on.

I wonder if it'll change in the winter when it's sub zero temps. *shrug*

I have to ask…what earth are you guys driving on to get these numbers?!?!?

I have a 2.7 Auto with a Sasquatch and the BEST I’ve ever gotten is 15.5 MPG.
I then did the 2.7 Procal tune and even after that…the absolute best MPG I’ve gotten is 16.8. I put premium in since day one, drive conservatively, and don’t take it out of Normal.

How on Earth are people getting OVER 20 mpg?!

That first trip getting 20.2mpg was probably under 20mpg actually due to speed reading a little fast. Tires were worn down and had ~38psi.

More recent big trip:

With 35" KO2's at 35-40psi (cold to warm) and 10/32" tread depth. Speedo almost dead on, so probably close to actual 20mpg. Average speed 56mph. Not too many mountain climbs. Pretty much under 73mph the whole time, no interstate driving, quite a few miles of under 60mph. Oil was pretty damn hot again (220°F) due to ambient temps being in the 60's so grille louvers closed - that might help a little.

I was just putting 87 or 85 octane in it since I wasn't getting into boost much. I use Costco 91 for in town driving, especially with my lead-foot wife driving it since it's her car.

I screwed up and didn't get the brackets for the soft-top that I got from a lady in Jackson, WY for $200 brand new. She doesn't have a socket wrench so I'm sending her a prepaid shipping label and box with a wrench in it for her to get the brackets for me, since Ford has the main set of brackets on perma-back-order and the rear receiver latches priced at $1340. I bought the top brackets since they have those in stock and don't want to make the Jackson lady take her top off to get to them.

The stop in Utah was to get Hoss 3.0 Fox shocks that I put on already and am enjoying. When I filled up in Rexburg, ID, my range for the tank was 450 miles. I haven't let it get low enough to see another 22gal fill-up that still baffles me, lol!
