Hello everyone so I filled up my tank the other day and it only went to 411 miles to empty which I thought was strange because it usually goes to 445 and this whole week it seems like the miles to empty drop down faster than I’ve ever noticed before for example today I left work at 272 mte and I got home it was at 234 mte I drive 27 miles and about 40 minutes highway just got the recall for the dash display update will do that fix this issue because it seems strange to me thanks

The recall is for the cluster display going blank. Nothing about the DTE reading incorrectly.

The DTE constantly adjusts, usually not that much, but I would just keep an eye on it at this point.

My bounces between 270 and 340. ~Usually~ it comes in at 320... but it can vary a lot and not really mean too much. It does seem to be fairly accurate once it starts ticking down, but it can hang near the top for a while...

Like I fill up, it reads 322.... 30 miles later, still reads 322... but by the time I fill up at 1/4 tank and 100 DTE, it's usually about right on how many gallons it takes to get back to full, and probably about right on how many miles remaining based on how much was left in the tank.

I chalk it up to traditional Ford fuel wonkiness. I had a 96 Ranger that I could get 300 miles out of the first 1/2 tank of gas (almost 100 miles just from "Top of gauge" to Full alone), the last 1/2 tank lasted 75 miles.

Mine flaked out a bit on our trip to Nova Scotia. At the time, I blamed it on the variable octanes and off-brand gas that I found at some remote stations. Didn’t run great on some of that gas either. The range info seemed to be less reliable when it was closer to full. Once I got back in the states on Shell 93, the estimates were more consistent and it ran better.

Would it have anything to do with warming up on cold days? I use a lot more fuel in the winter months just idling in the driveway

Can’t confirm but I believe it’s tied to your trip 1 avg mpg. Coming back from a trip with lots of highway driving, a full up will show over 400, but if I’m just commuting around town for the week, it’s more like 360.

Try resetting your trip 1 and see how that affects it.

I was going to ask you how your visit to Bluenose country went? I hope you and your family enjoyed yourselves.

Wow. Winter mileage is always less. In summer I'm often over 450 for a tank, 21+ mpg. Now, not even 20. Fuel mixes change as well.

It changes with your recent driving.

For example if you start towing a trailer would you want it to say 200mi remaining when you're only going to make it 120?

My wife and I had a great trip, thanks. Mount Washington was fun but damn was it cold at the top! We took the ferry from Maine to get to NS and returned by the land route. Whole thing ended up being just over 3200 miles. We really lucked out on the weather in NS. Blue skies most of time, including for the whole Cabot Trail. My profile pick was taken there.
